Fiberglass Freaks of Logansport, Indianapolis, is selling the chance to live a childhood dream. With the launch of the original Batman television show in 1966, thoughts of driving the gadget-filled Batmobile filled the minds of many children. Mark Racop was one of those children. He built his first Batmobile replica off a 1974 Monte Carlo in his father’s garage with the help of friends when he was 17. Today, he builds replicas of the 1966 Batmobile for a living.
The full-size drivable replicas sell for approximately $150,000 and are licensed collectibles of DC Comics. His cars are based off molds of the original one-off 1955 Lincoln Futura show car, which was converted into the Batmobile a decade later for the hit TV series. Fiberglass Freaks's Batmobile replicas start life as a mid-70s Lincoln Town Car. Almost every piece, except for the chassis, engine, transmission, and floor pan, is replaced with quality and often custom-made parts.

Mark Racop’s attention to every detail of the Batmbile borderlines obsessive, which is why each replica features many of the gadgets that followers of the TV show found so mesmerizing. One such gadget is a rocket exhaust tube that shoots a two-foot flame out the back of the vehicle. Another is a replica of the Batbeam, a gold flyswatter-like antenna that could, through a little television magic, cut through steel and concrete.
Each replica takes 1,000 hours or approximately six months to build with a limited of eights cars being sold per year per its agreement with DC Comics. Read more about Fiberglass Freaks's replica Batmobiles here.
