Due to a drop in the number on engines ordered by Maserati from Ferrari, a Ferrari factory in Maranello will close down for one week starting May 17. Besides putting 600 workers on leave, Ferrari also announced that it would be cutting 120 office jobs and 150 factory jobs, or approximately 9 percent of its workforce. The number of engines order from Ferrari by Maserati has been dropping dramatically the past few years; the 4,500 engines it ordered in 2009 is approximately half the engines ordered in 2008.
In October of 2009, Ferrari announced that it would be closing some of its factories for one week due to a lack of sales forecasted for 2010 models.
