Switzerland millionaire gets record-setting $290,000 speeding ticket

In Switzerland, where speeding tickets are based on the person’s wealth and driving record, an unnamed millionaire was fined $290,000 for doing 85 mph in a 5035-mph zone. The man was driving his red Ferrari Testarossa through a village at the time he was pulled over. According to a Court in St. Gallen, Switzerland, the man’s assessed value of $22.7 million and his status as a repeat offender is why it decided to hand down the astronomical fee.

"The accused ignored elementary traffic rules with a powerful vehicle out of a pure desire for speed," the court said in its judgement.
