Lamborghini and Ferrari are both turning towards hybrid technology as a way of cutting emissions and lowering fuel consumption in a time when many governments are ramping up their average fuel requirements. Although the exotic car manufacturers don’t have to meet these requirements directly, it could affect Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s parent companies, Fiat and Volkswagen.
Lamborghini plans to reduce its factory emissions by 30% no later than 2010 and its vehicle emissions by 35% on or before 2015. Some speculate to accomplish its goal, Lamborghini may decide to produce the Estoque concept with a hybrid drivetrain.
Ferrari will be there with Lamborghini when it is expected to release its hybrid by 2014. A Ferrari patent request that includes drawings of a hybrid drivetrain have already been leaked on the internet. Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa told Car and Driver that we should expect to see the Ferrari hybrid concept at an American auto show before the end of the year.
