"There can be little argument that the motorcar maker, Porsche, has been, for some time, one of the premier manufacturers, certainly within the upper echelon of driving. The model that they have produced year after year is the 911 Targa. To both the seasoned collector and the novice, the idea of a 911 Targa for sale is nothing less than a drop of oil in the eyes of the race car enthusiast.

In car culture, perhaps the most celebrated testament to the company’s core values of innovation and performance is the Porsche 911 Targa, which debuted in 1965. Since that time, the semi-convertible Targa has been Porsche in microcosm: cresting down the road in a Targa, with the breeze rippling through your hair, you sense you’re taking a drive into Porsche’s marque identity. Its semi-convertible roof hinged over and its rear glass folded back, Porsche called the semi-convertible Targa ‘semi-open yet safe’. According to the brand, its designers were compelled to invent the Targa by rumors that the US Department of Transportation, which sets automotive safety standards, might ban convertibles from US highways. Its name, the company said, ‘Targa’ – Italian for ‘plate’ – was taken from the Targa Florio, a road race through the mountainous Italian region of Sicily. Porsche won the race 14 times.

It’s a car lover’s paradise. The Targa (from the Latin: teger, to cover) is a special edition of the 911 that combines several features of open-top cabriolet models with the rigidity of a coupé. For those unfamiliar, the 911 Targa includes a sliding roof section above the front seats and a wraparound rear window. This is highly engineered and has evolved over the decades to provide open-air driving with the rigidity and safety of a relatively sturdy hard-top.

Beneath the hood, however, the 911 Targa still embodies Porsche’s ‘power and performance’ mantra, with a six-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine that will shoot you to 60 mph in well under four seconds. Coupled with legendary Porsche engineering and driving dynamics, the 911 Targa is not just a car: it’s an experience.

When you seek out a Porsche 911 Targa available for sale, you are not simply buying a car – you are purchasing a portion of automotive history. When you acquire a 911 Targa, you signal a reverence for craftsmanship, performance, and style. A 911 Targa grants you an opportunity to drive a machine that combines half a century of automotive development into a single segment of roadway, and to do so with a measure of style.

In other words, you will be hard-pressed to find any other car in the world that beats the Porsche 911 Targa for a mix of design and performance – and you certainly won’t find anything that will give you an equally thrilling experience of pure driving pleasure in the open air. Finding a 911 Targa for sale may be difficult, but it’s every bit as worth it as owning such a car. And, as Porsche innovates and improves, there will always be a 911 Targa for those who will keep the dream alive."
