From 1977 to 1990, the V12 models were equipped with Chevrolet’s Turbo400 automatic transmission. It can be rebuilt in a few hours by novice enthusiasts and modified to handle 700 horsepower. This makes Chevy engine swaps common on older XJs because repairing the original engine is quite expensive.
