Ford Mustang Mach 1 For Sale Greenwich, CT

Used Ford Mustang Mach 1 For Sale

The Ford Mustang Mach 1 for sale was initially released as a premium, performance-oriented option package in 1968. The Mach 1 Mustang for sale was in production between 1969 and 1978, five years after the Mustang's introduction. The 1970 Mach 1 for sale was developed to compete with contemporary muscle cars, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird.

In 1968, Ford successfully re-designed the Mustang's platform and engine bay to allow for the new, more massive 428 cu in (7.0 L) Cobra Jet FE engine. During the first year of sales. 72,458 Ford Mustang Mach 1's were sold. The 1969 Mach 1 was so popular that Ford decided to discontinue the GT performance line due to paltry sales of just over 5,000 cars in that same year.

The sporty 1969 Mach 1 was only available with a V8 powered Sports Roof (formerly called the ‘Fastback’) body style. This Mustang edition was never sold with a hardtop or convertible option. Resto-mod versions of the Mach 1 often incorporate a hardtop or convertible, but the VIN won't check out as original. The Mach 1 also included several visual and performance enhancements for a long, well-rounded list of features. It received a striking matte black hood treatment, distinctive hood and door scoops, a finely-tuned, competition-worthy suspension, a pop-open chrome gas cap, and Goodyear Polyglas tires.

Chrome exhaust tips, a deluxe interior with teak wood grain details, full sound deadening material and high back bucket seats, custom livery, and an optional chin and rear deck spoiler and SportSlats completed the upgrades for the Mach 1. The famous "Shaker hood" option is an air scoop mounted on top of the motor to collect fresh air that often caused the powerful v-8 engine below to “shake.”

The standard version of the best-selling Mach 1 Windsor included a 250-bhp motor 2V motor that came with a 3-speed manual transmission and a 9-inch 28 spline open rear axle. The Mach 1’s all have upgraded suspensions that varied with powertrain choices, including optional 3-speed automatic or 4-speed manual transmission. Big-block cars had front shock tower reinforcements, thick sway bars, heavy springs, and staggered rear shocks for an incredible driving experience.

The 1969 Mach 1 Mustangs set 295 speed and endurance records over a series of 500-mile and 24-hour long courses. The following year, Ford modified the exterior with new sport lamps, side and rear badging, and recessed honeycomb taillights.
