Last year we were taken back by the return of the Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS for sale and its innovative roof. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Targa, and as such, the automotive artists in Stuttgart are celebrating with the 430 horsepower flat-six from the GTS. The torque remains at 325 pound-feet, but with 30 more horses to play with and the option of a seven-speed manual transmission, the open top roadster has the potential to be the most enjoyable AWD convertible you will ever encounter. 60 mph arrives in 4.5 seconds for the manual transmission and 4.1 for the PDK dual-clutch automatic. We know automatics are faster, but the satisfaction of a proper heel-toe corner exit at 7,500 rpm is nothing short of breathtaking. The car stands at the top of the Targa lineup and comes well equipped with the Sport Chrono package and active suspension management. 20-inch center lock wheels complete the package, with a sticker price that’s a relative bargain compared to the upper-end 911 models. If you haven’t seen the Targa in action, the roof disappearing act alone is awe-inspiring.
