Used C6 Corvette For Sale

Used Corvette C6 For Sale

It took bold moves to bring the Chevrolet Corvette into the modern era. A radical departure from its predecessor, the C6 Corvette for sale is a popular option for many enthusiasts. Inspired by the Stealth Fighter, Chevrolet designer Tom Peters produced a sleek and angular shape. It was the 6th generation Chevrolet Corvette spanning the model years of 2005 to 2013. Almost a decade saw changes in power, but the chassis and suspension were carried over from its predecessor. The first C6 Corvette was ready for 2005 with an MSRP of $43,710. They can be found for half that amount in great condition today.

To take on new competitors, the C6 Corvette was the first Corvette with projector headlights. Other firsts include a powered convertible top, navigation, MP3 audio, dual-mode exhaust, and electric door latches. A new six-speed automatic wasn't ready for the C7 Corvette debut, so the 2005 Corvette arrived with the same 4-speed automatic introduced in 1982. The C6 Corvette manual transmission was also carried over from the previous generation. From 2006 onwards, the paddle-shifted 6-speed automatic was the default transmission.

Every used C6 Corvette is either a coupe or convertible. Base model coupes have a steel chassis with a removable Targa roof panel. Convertibles have a cloth top with a heated rear glass window. Performance models have an aluminum chassis and a magnesium roof that can't be removed. The C6 Corvette coupe has the lowest cD or the coefficient of drag. Measuring in at 0.24, it is the most aerodynamic Corvette to-date.

Initially, all C6 Corvettes were powered by the 6.0 liter LS2 V8. It offers 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. A new engine arrived in 2008, the LS3 is a 6.2 liter V8 that makes 430 horsepower and 424 lb-ft of torque. Having more torque at a lower rpm makes 2008 to 2013 C6 Corvettes more desirable than the earlier cars.

For those looking to buy a C6 Corvette, you will be happy to learn that brakes and suspension components date back to 1997. Not only is maintenance very affordable, but the aftermarket has also had decades to develop upgrade parts. There are three suspension packages to choose from. The base model (FE1) is tuned for the occasional track day, and it is moderately stiff. Cars with the Z51 package have stronger sway bars and Bilstein shocks. Magnetic ride control (option F55) rides as smooth as a luxury car, or transform into a track machine at an instant.

Numb steering was corrected in 2008, with a complete redesign of the steering system. From the steering wheel to the front wheels, everything was forged and machined from stronger metals. Not only did this improve grip, but it also translated more road feel back to the driver. Another update for that year was a full leather interior. Forged wheels returned in polished aluminum, and their weight savings is worth finding a set when you buy a C6 Corvette. A new dual-mode exhaust was introduced. It uses flaps on the inboard tailpipes to bypass the mufflers. While stock programming keeps the system closed at part-throttle, pulling the fuse is an affordable way to increase sound and performance. The final optional upgrade introduced for 2008 was a 2.73 ratio differential. It offers much quicker acceleration than the 2.56 gears, so be sure to look for option code GU2.

Once you have decided to purchase a C6 Corvette, our dealers will be happy to inspect it. These cars were designed to run between 215 and 230 degrees. Such hot running takes its toll on the wiring harnesses and rubber components under the hood. Your first action should be to install a 180-degree thermostat. Keep in mind the car is very low, so road debris and leaves will accumulate on the radiator. Use a shop vacuum to clean the condenser and radiator twice a year. Every C6 Corvette left the factory with a very aggressive wheel alignment. While it offers incredible grip, the tires will evaporate in months. Finding a competent shop to square up the wheels and your tires will last much longer. When it comes to brakes, make sure to do a panic stop once a week. The brakes are so good that ABS rarely intervenes. A panic stop will keep the ABS module in working order.
