After several seasons of what many consider 'out of this world' designs, the styling of the 1964 Plymouths returned to a much more pleasing contemporary look. New up front, new to the rear, and a new side profile gave these smart-looking family cars a modern look that blended in with other full-size vehicles of the day. New interiors with luxurious, long-wearing fabrics that were easy to maintain, along with a simple, yet functional, instrument panel gave both the driver and passenger a sense of security. It was a truly up-to-date car that as Plymouth touted, 'brightens up a driveway the minute you pull in.' But more than just good looks, performance was also stressed: 'It's how the car responds to the accelerator, answers to the wheel, behaves when you touch the brake pedal.' Plymouth had been building on its image as a dependable motorcar since its inception in the late 1920s, not really a street racer, but for 1964 everything seemed to come together, looks and just a hint of higher performance. At the head of the pecking order were the exciting new Sport Furys with these top-of-the-line models available only in hardtop and convertible form. These well-appointed cars featured standard equipment including all-vinyl individual bucket seats, deluxe steering wheel, center compartment console, deep pile color-keyed carpeting, electric windshield wipers, in-dash electric clock, and more.     This exciting Plymouth is 1 of just 3,858 Sport Fury convertibles assembled during the 1964 model year and we believe it is one of the finest examples remaining. It is finished in Ruby Red and fitted with red vinyl bucket seats protected by a power-operated new white soft top. Treated to a full restoration, great attention was paid to details and nothing was overlooked. It is powered by the 330-HP version of Plymouth's mighty 383-cubic-inch 'Commando V8' engine fitted with an original four-barrel cast-iron intake, factory exhaust headers, and is backed up with Mopar's own A833 four-speed manual transmission which transfers power to the 8.75-inch rear axle. Along with the standard list of features for the Sport Fury, this convertible's list of extra cost accessories is simply impressive. Yes, it has the TransAudio AM radio to listen to the latest sounds of the day, as well as a modern fresh-air heater defroster that operates at the touch of a dash-mounted push-button. For safety and convenience, this beauty has power steering and power brakes making this Sport Fury a dream to drive. The transmission shifter is mounted into the center console which also houses the optional tachometer and was available only on these prestigious models. During restoration, the entire drivetrain appears to have been rebuilt with attention to authenticity in the details. All engine components have been meticulously inspected, tested, and detailed, and include the very hard-to-find air cleaner assembly. Looking at the chassis and suspension components, the underside of this Plymouth appears to be cleaner than when it came off the line at Detroit's Lynch Road assembly plant. The Ruby Red finish encompasses the entire body, including the hidden floor panels and engine compartment. In the luggage compartment, stored as the factory installed them, are an original jack, body color spare tire, and protective trunk mat. A tasteful and attractive upgrade is the addition of a set of Mopar Magnum 500 wheels which have been wrapped with a set of B.F. Goodrich Silvertown Redline radial tires. Other extras included with this righteous red ride include a set of original full wheel covers, accessory front bumper guard, convertible top boot, and the Jiffy Jet windshield washer system.    In talking with our consignor, he stated that in his vast collection of vehicles, this is one of the most exciting and enjoyable cars he has ever driven, and being belted into those comfortable bucket seats provides a feeling of confidence when holding the sleek steering wheel. Plymouth launched the redesigned second-generation Barracuda for the 1967 model year, boasting a longer 108-inch wheelbase and more aggressive, model-specific bodywork. Now available in fastback, notchback coupe, and convertible configurations, the second-generation Barracuda offered a long list of options and performance equipment to suit the needs of the buyer. The final iteration of this body style was 1969. A 1969 sales brochure paints the perfect picture of what a Barracuda is: 'It's a car that picks up the bread at the corner store just as readily as it takes off on weekend jaunts through the country.'     This stunning 1969 Barracuda was delivered new to Southern Motors, Philadelphia. One of just 1,442 Barracuda convertibles produced for the 1969 model year, this car was ordered with a host of options to create a very unique car when new. Finished beautifully in X9 Black with a black top with correct one-year-only glass rear window and R6 Red interior, it is powered by a 318-cubic-inch V-8 engine paired with an optional four-speed manual transmission that sends power back to the larger 8Â¾ rear differential with 3:23 gears. This car is 1 of only 56 Barracuda convertibles produced with this engine and transmission combo.     The option list on this car is long and impressive. Some of the items include M85 bumper guards front and rear, power steering, disc brakes, the AO1 light package with hood-mounted turn indicators and V7R Red accent stripes to match the interior. The sporty and luxurious red interior features the optional A86 interior package that includes luxury bucket seats, woodgrain accents and map pouches on the door panels. Further interior amenities include a center console, A62 Rallye instrument cluster with 150-mph speedometer, N85 tachometer, and factory R21 AM/FM radio. All of the many options on this car can be verified by the body tag and window sticker that accompany this car. Additionally, all numbers are matching on the drivetrain. Built to homologate Plymouth's participation in the SCCA Trans Am racing series, the AAR (All American Racers) 'Cuda was a one-year-only model that combined aggressive styling with real performance pedigree. Named after Dan Gurney's All American Racers team, which campaigned Plymouth Barracudas in the Trans Am series, the AAR 'Cuda was a bold statement of Plymouth's racing ambitions.    Under the hood, every AAR 'Cuda came equipped with a 340-cubic-inch V-8 engine topped by a trio of two-barrel carburetors, producing 290 horsepower and 345 foot-pounds of torque. This engine, paired with either a four-speed manual or a TorqueFlite automatic transmission, delivered quick acceleration and high-revving character that made it a thrill to drive. A unique side-exit exhaust system and performance-tuned suspension made the AAR stand apart from standard 'Cudas, both in sound and handling.    Visually, the AAR 'Cuda was unmistakable. It featured a fiberglass fresh-air hood with a large scoop, bold 'strobe' side stripes, and a ducktail rear spoiler. Plymouth offered the car in a striking palette of 'High Impact' colors such as Tor Red, Lemon Twist, Sublime, Vitamin C, and In-Violet, along with more subtle shades. The example here is finished in Tor Red, one of the most iconic and eye-catching hues available. With only around 2,724 AAR 'Cudas produced, these cars remain highly sought-after by collectors today. The combination of Trans Am racing heritage, limited production, bold styling, and high-revving small-block power makes the 1970 AAR 'Cuda a standout among classic muscle cars and an enduring symbol of Mopar performance.    Finished in its original factory shade of EV2 Tor Red over a black upholstered interior that was restored in 2023, this 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda draws attention wherever its driven. Its stance is complete with a flat black fresh-air fiberglass hood with locking pins, factory rear window louvers, iconic strobe stripe graphics, and 15-inch Rallye wheels paired with Goodyear Polyglas GT tires.    Under the hood lurks a 290 horsepower 340-cubic-inch V-8 engine topped with a six-barrel carburetor set up that was engineered to tear down the blacktop pavement. Paired with a four-speed manual transmission with a Hurst pistol-grip shifter, an 8-3/4-inch rear axle, and power brakes, it begs to be driven. And even though it is equipped with a radio, you most likely won't be needing it, as the sound from the side-exit exhaust pipe will be more than sufficient for one's auditory pleasure.    This AAR 'Cuda isn't just a rare piece of Mopar history, it's a true driver's car, built to deliver excitement on both the street and the track. The 1970 Plymouth Superbird is an iconic muscle car known for its distinctive design and performance capabilities. It is part of the Chrysler Corporation's Winged Warriors series, which also included the Dodge Charger Daytona. The Superbird was developed primarily for NASCAR racing and was produced in limited numbers, making it a highly sought-after collector's item today.The Superbird was conceived in response to NASCAR's increasing popularity and the need for manufacturers to create high-performance vehicles that could compete on the racetrack.They featured a unique aerodynamic design, most notably its elongated nose and an enormous rear wing. These elements were engineered to improve downforce at high speeds and enhance stability. The car was based on the Plymouth Road Runner but had significant modifications, including a new front end that accommodated the aerodynamic nose and a split grille design. The rear wing was a defining characteristic, standing nearly 3 feet tall. Production was limited with only 1,935 cars built for one year only and it is estimated less than 1,000 survive today.This particular example is equipped with a 440 cubic inch, 375 hp motor coupled to a 727 Torqueflight 3-speed automatic transmission and is one of only 626 built with a 4 barrel 440ci and automatic transmission. She is finished in the high impact color of Lemon Twist, (one of an estimated 350 in this color) with a black vinyl roof and black interior. Copies of the window sticker and broadcast build sheet also accompany the car. The partial VIN number stamped on the block and the transmission are the same as the dash VIN, and fender tag. MorganrnAppealing to any devotee of Plymouths, or the Nittany Lionsrn rnrnThe year 1932 marked the last season for the original Plymouth four-cylinder engine first introduced at the brand's debut in 1928. It was sent out with a bang on a longer chassis featuring very modern styling, including one-piece fenders and a hood that extended all the way from the chromed radiator shell to the windshield. The result gave the appearance of a much larger, costlier automobile and has gone down in history as one of the most beautiful Plymouths ever produced.rnrnThe PB Sport Roadster, of which 2,163 were made, was the sort of flashy car that a sporty, financially secure young person might have driven to college. Plymouth management agreed and sold the model as the Collegiate Special, available custom-painted in the school colors of its buyer's choice for just $40 extra. It is unknown exactly how many sales that scheme added to the 1932 Plymouth ledgers, but it was a terrific idea and probably resulted in some rather spectacular-looking automobiles.rnrnPennsylvania knitwear magnate John E. Morgan acquired this particular Sport Roadster in May 1987. Mr. Morgan commissioned the noted Grey Hills Auto Restoration of New Jersey to restore the car in, of course, Penn State Nittany Lions livery, creating a Collegiate Special in navy blue and white, inside and out. Apparently he intended to gift the car to the legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, but Joe Pa was unable to accept such an extravagant present and the Plymouth instead wound up in the famous JEM Classic Car Museum in Andreas, Pennsylvania, for over a decade.rnrnWhen the Morgan Collection was dispersed in 2003 at the first private collection sale held by a young RM Auctions, the Plymouth was purchased by Grant Miller, from whom the present collection acquired it several years later. Displayed in the collection since, it is still attractive, although the finishes of the paint have aged significantly since restoration, while the interior remains in good overall condition. Accessories include dual side-mounted spares with accessory mirrors and windshield-mounted wind wings.rnrnAppropriately youthful and spritely in appearance, this Plymouth has much to recommend it.
