In 1948 Ferruccio Lamborghini founded a company that produced agricultural machinery. In the boom of the post-war years, he quickly rose to become a successful industrialist and one of the largest tractor manufacturers.

Starting in the mid-1950s, he maintained a collection of sports cars, including cars such as the 300 SL, E-Type, Maserati 3500 GT and several Ferraris.

In his opinion, the Ferraris were equipped, among other things, with a clutch that was too weak, which annoyed him greatly, as these often resulted in unnecessary and time-consuming repairs. In 1963, at a brief meeting, he brought this up as a complaint to Enzo Ferrari and offered him, as an engineer, a simple solution to the problem. From Enzo came the sentence: "Let me make cars. You stick to making tractors."   - That evening Lamborghini decided to build its own GT, better than Ferrari.

Lamborghini was able to recruit five former Ferrari designers and constructors for his project, who Enzo had fired two years earlier because of a dispute. Among them was Giotto Bizzarrini, who had the greatest influence on the new car and developed the V12 engine. Also, the legendary race car designer Gian Paolo Dallara, was significantly involved in the development.

In just 5 months, a first prototype was created, the 350 GTV.

On March 9, 1964, the first production 350 GT was finally presented at the Geneva Motor Show.

In 1966 the successor model 400 GT followed.

The 400 GT 2+2 is the successor to Ferruccio Lamborghinis first sports car, the 350 GT.

As the name suggests, the displacement of the V12 engine increased from 3.5l to 4l.

Rear seat space was increased for a 2+2 configuration and the roofline was slightly adjusted to accommodate this, but this did not detract from the cars elegance in any way.

In addition, the 400 GT received a new, fully synchronized, 5-speed transmission developed by Lamborghini itself and dual headlights from Hella.

As already established with the 350 GT, the 400 GT also had independent suspension and disc brakes.

Our car was delivered in April 1967 to the French importer Voitures Paris Monceau in Paris.

Six days later, sold to the first owner, near Bordeaux.

The car remained in France all its life, a total of 5 owners until 2007. The history is complete.
