*1955 Ford Thunderbird*Going on sale in 1955, the Thunderbird was Ford's answer to the recently released Chevrolet Corvette as a formidable rival in the two seat sports car class. Designed as a grand touring coupe, the Thunderbird was intended to shuttle its occupants down the road in comfort, at speed and in style-and it beat the contemporary Corvette in each of those areas. This first year, 1955 Thunderbird is the embodiment of what made them great- from the color choice to the options selected- and is the perfect companion for top down summer cruising. For the first model year of the Thunderbird, the P-Code package was the only engine option available- a punchy 292ci V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor sitting atop it. This engine provided 193 horsepower which was almost identical to the newly introduced V8 in the Corvette and could be paired to an automatic or 3-speed manual transmission. This car was outfitted with the Ford-O-Matic 2-Speed automatic transmission which is known for smooth shifting and being quite reliable and power brakes to help stop the car more easily.The exterior of this Thunderbird is painted in the quintessential shade of Thunderbird Blue. A striking hue of turquoise, this is one of the signature Thunderbird colors and looks absolutely fantastic on the car. A unique option that this Thunderbird was fitted with is the Continental Kit in the rear- an extended bumper with a spare tire covered in a color matched casing on the back, this feature looks exceptionally cool and is known for being quite desirable to collectors. All of the wheels including the spare in the Continental Kit are fitted with Kelsey Hayes wire wheels and white wall tires which give the car an upscale, vintage look. Another Thunderbird signature that isn't seen on most cars is the rear wheel skirts that make the car look lower and sleeker and when paired with the chrome headlight eyebrows, does wonders to complete the overall aesthetic of the car. All Thunderbirds of this generation were convertibles and the black top on this example looks fantastic- with tight fitting fabric and beautiful clear rear window. The car is also available with a removable hardtop which is color matched but has not been restored along with the rest of the car.As the Thunderbird was intended as a grand touring vehicle, the interior is really where it shines- and this example is no exception. The two-tone turquoise and white interior presents fantastically and, when combined with the turned aluminum trim along the dashboards and door panels, provides an exciting cockpit to be in. In front of the driver is a full suite of gauges featuring a 150-mph speedometer, tachometer and clock and the2-spoke turquoise steering wheel looks and feels great in the hands. At the time, the Thunderbird was available with numerous luxury features that could only be found on much higher end cars, and this example features a number of them. Power adjustable seats and power windows were not a common feature at this time- and compared to the contemporary Corvette with its side curtains- was an exceptionally nice place to be. The steering column is telescoping to aid in driver comfort and the AM Radio in the dash looks great but needs a bit of servicing before being used. Overall, the style available in this era of Thunderbird is unparalleled and makes for a fantastic conversation piece anywhere you go in it. Please email  or call 1-*number in the description*  About the T-Bird:  Ford Thunderbird (colloquially called the T-Bird) is a nameplate that was used by Ford from model years 1955 to 1997 and 2002 to 2005 for a personal luxury car during which there were eleven distinct generations. Introduced as a two-seat convertible, the Thunderbird was produced in a variety of body configurations. These included a four-seat hardtop coupe, four-seat convertible, five-seat convertible and hardtop, four-door pillared hardtop sedan, six-passenger hardtop coupe, and five-passenger pillared coupe, with the final generation designed again as a two-seat convertible.  Ford targeted the two-seat Thunderbird as an upscale model, but the design introduced for 1958 featured a rear seat and arguably marked expansion of a market segment eventually known as personal luxury cars. An American interpretation of the grand tourer, personal luxury cars were built with a higher emphasis on driving comfort and convenience features over handling and high-speed performance. From 1968 to 1998, Lincoln-Mercury marketed rebadged variants of the Thunderbird as the Continental Mark III, Mark IV, Mark V, Mercury Cougar, Lincoln Mark VII, and Lincoln Mark VIII.  Introduced in February 1953 as a response to Chevrolet's new sports car, the Corvette, which was publicly unveiled in prototype form just a month before. Under rapid development, the Thunderbird went from idea to prototype in about a year, being unveiled to the public at the Detroit Auto Show on February 20, 1954. It was a two-seat design available with a detachable glass-fiber hardtop and a folding fabric top. Production of the Thunderbird began on September 9 of that year, with the car beginning sales as a 1955 model on October 22, 1954.  Though sharing some design characteristics with other Fords of the time, such as single, circular headlamps and tail lamps and modest tailfins, the Thunderbird was sleeker in shape and featured a hood scoop and a 150 mph speedometer not available on other Fords. It utilized mechanical components from mass-market Ford models. The Thunderbird's 102" wheelbase frame was a shortened version used in other Fords and the standard 292 CI Y-block V8 came from Ford's Mercury division.  Though inspired by, and positioned directly against, the Corvette, Ford billed the Thunderbird as a personal car, putting a greater emphasis on the car's comfort and convenience features rather than its inherent sportiness. The Thunderbird sold exceptionally well in its first year. In fact, the Thunderbird outsold the Corvette by more than 23-to-one for 1955 with 16,155 Thunderbirds sold against 700 Corvettes. With the Thunderbird considered a success, few changes were made to the car for the 1956 model year. The most notable change was moving the spare tire to a continental-style rear bumper to make more storage room in the trunk and a new 12-volt electrical system. Among the few other changes were new paint colors, the addition of circular porthole windows as standard in the fiberglass roof to improve rearward visibility, and a 312 CI Y-block V8 rated at 215HP when mated to a 3-speed manual transmission or 225HP when mated to a Ford-O-Matic 2-speed automatic transmission; this transmission featured a "low gear", which was accessible manually via the gear selector. When in "Drive", it was a 2-speed automatic transmission (similar to Chevrolet's Powerglide). The Low gear could also be accessed with wide open throttle. 1956 was also the year Ford added their new lifeguard safety package.
