The 1931 Auburn 8-100A Boattail Speedster is an exquisite embodiment of the Roaring Twenties' bold spirit and the early Thirties' refined elegance. A masterpiece of automotive design, this Auburn stands as a testament to America's Golden Age of Motoring, a time when style and performance were as much a priority as engineering excellence.    Crafted under the visionary leadership of Errett Lobban Cord, Auburn automobiles were designed to rival the finest marques of their era. The 8-100A Boattail Speedster, with its sweeping fenders, dramatic tapering tail, and exquisitely sculpted lines, was an instant icon. Not merely just an artistic triumph but also a formidable performer on the open road, power was delivered by a 268.6-cubic-inch straight-eight Lycoming engine, producing a robust 100 horsepower. As an 'A' series, it is equipped with a dual-range overdrive rear axle. Among the early innovations in the 1932 Auburn Speedster were the automatic Startix starter, automatic chassis lubrication, adjustable shocks, early six-speed gears and four-wheel Steeldraulic drum brakes. Today, the 1932 Auburn 8-100A Boattail Speedster remains one of the most coveted pre-war American classics, revered for its artistry, engineering, and the effortless glamour it exudes. It is a rolling sculpture, an enduring symbol of an era when automobiles were as much about elegance as they were about innovation.    Well known among the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club-faithful, this 'Big 8' 1932 Auburn 8-100A Boattail Speedster is pinned with known and documented ownership history that traces back to the 1960s. ACD Club certified A-017, it is one of the earliest known Auburns to be certified by the Club, being number 17. Retaining all of its major original components, body, engine, chassis, and transmission, this example is also noted to still have its original number stampings present in the passenger side wood seals, seldom seen indeed.    Owned by well-known and noted Chicago collector Joe Bortz in the '60s, he would sell this Speedster to its long-term caretaker and known ACD Club member, the late Raymond L. Cloud of Pennsylvania in 1966. A frequent and familiar participant at ACD Club events, regularly driving this example from Pennsylvania to Auburn, Indiana, for the annual club reunion over Labor Day weekend, this Speedster became a stable at gatherings. Owned by Mr. Cloud for an astonishing 44 years, this Speedster was his pride and joy and was often mentioned in the ACD Club Newsletters. A member of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club for 47 years, Mr. Cloud would pass away in 2010, and ownership of his beloved Speedster would go to his family. The family would then sell this Auburn to Wayne Carini, who would then pass it on to the current noted collector that has owned an array of impressive Boattail Speedsters and Duesenberg Model Js.     As noted on the ACD Club Certification, this example retains an original speedster body that is cloaked in a mellowed white paint with green accents over a green leather interior. The body panels are solid with good fitment and are complemented by green wire wheels wrapped in new Firestone whitewall tires that match the body and interior. Features are plentiful and entail dual enclosed side-mounted spares integrated into the front fenders, dual cowl lights, dual Pilot Ray driving lights, a passenger side golf club bag door, and a streamlined rakish windshield. The Lycoming straight-eight engine and three-speed manual transmission are mechanically sorted and will allow its next fortunate owner to continue touring it and attending ACD Club events.     There are very few authentic Auburn Speedsters in existence and fewer still with their original wood stamp. Never before offered at public auction, this 1932 Auburn 8-100A Boattail Speedster is an extraordinary opportunity to acquire a highly original, well-documented, limited ownership, certified example that is widely regarded as one of the most desirable pre-war automobiles ever crafted in America.
