*1972 Datsun 240Z*Â Although Datsun had been selling cars in the United States prior to the introduction of the 240Z, the two-door sports car was the model that really put them on the map. With its stunning long nose and sloped fastback shape, the 240Z looked both more exotic and far more expensive than it actually was, and became one of the first truly desirable Japanese cars stateside. This 1972 240Z is particularly special, as it is being offered from its original owner who purchased the car new in Bellingham, WA and is sold with its original title and warranty/service booklets.Â Finished in white with black side stripes, this 240Z is lightly modified in a manner that somebody would have done in period. Sitting on a set of 4-spoke American Racing mag wheels, and with a BRE air dam up front, this car is a true blast from the past. In 2018, a comprehensive restoration on this car was completed where some of the very common rust issues were addressed, the whole car received new paint and re-striped with the correct 240Z sill stripes.Â The interior of the car was upholstered in red vinyl, creating a stunning contrast to the white exterior. During the restoration, the entire interior was thoroughly gone through and brought back to original specification. This included new seat upholstery, new carpets and the dashboard and instruments were refurbished but remain original to the car. Another great thing about this car is that it is fitted with air conditioning which wasnât particularly common and great to have for summer drives.Â Under the hood sits the powerplant that made the 240Z so legendary. Known as the L24, this 2.4-liter inline-6 with a single overhead camshaft produces 150 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque and is known for its low end punch and great sound as you rev it out. Breathing through a pair of Hitachi SU carburetors, this carâs engine bay looks to have been well kept from new, with original stickers still affixed to the orange air cleaner.Â The 240Z was a car that brought sports cars to the masses in the 1960s and 1970s and remains a very sought after car to this day. This example is particularly unique, having been under the care of a single owner from new, and benefiting from the recent reconditioning.
