Manual fans rejoice because a manual gearbox has been added to the 2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S for sale. Yes, you read that correctly: the English automaker will give customers the option to choose either the Sportshift III automatic transmission or an honest seven-speed manual transmission with a dog-leg first gear position. CEO, Dr. Andy Palmer, said that the “manual gearbox remains an integral part of our product plans and will be for many years to come.” With this new transmission, AM is including the AMSHIFT system, which will “blip” the throttle when downshifting. If you’ve mastered the heel-and-toe technique, you can switch this feature off. Whether you pick the manual transmission or automatic transmission, We're told that the same performance is guaranteed in both. What kind of performance are we talking about? They state the S will rocket from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 205 mph. What’s more, this option comes as at no cost and will be available to US customers.

Unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Vantage GT12 is the fastest, most powerful, road-going version to be produced in 2016. This special edition coupe will be produced in an exclusive production run of 100 race-inspired units. Featuring a modified version of the V12 S’ 5.9-liter V12, the GT12’s drivetrain produces 600 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque, launching it from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 185 mph. Although the GT12’s top speed is significantly lower than the V12 S’ 205 miles per hour, this track-day focused car makes up for it in the corners. With extreme aerodynamics, upgraded Brembo brakes and a number of weight saving modifications, the GT12 weighs in 330 pounds lighter than the V12 S and should grip the tarmac with a vengeance. The price for this special edition comes in at $385,000, but may shift in the future as certain examples come up for resale; all of the 100 GT12s were sold to private parties prior to its unveiling.

It almost looked as if we were missing out. Great Britain got the Roadster, a roofless version of the 510-horsepower entry Aston. Meanwhile, continental Europe received the SP 10, a special V-8 Vantage S that commemorates the GT4 racecar. Jealousy was kicking in until the company unveiled V-12 Vantage S for everyone. The new model completely replaces the base model and comes equipped with the upgraded Vanquish engine, offering up a 55-horsepower boost to easily crack a four-second 0–62 and a top speed of 200 miles per hour. Outside the One-77, it’s the fastest Aston ever built for the street. It also gets the Vanquish’s three-stage adaptive damper with Normal, Sport and Track modes. The dampers work in conjunction with another button-activated Sport mode which heightens the throttle response, exhaust notes and gearshift speed, and timing. Gone is the six-speed manual, but we gain a new, automated manual transmission, offering faster shifts in a lighter package. It’s enough to make other Vantages jealous and keep us content.
