Something new & rugged arrived from England in 1983, it was the Land Rover Defender 110 for sale. The name is a reference to the wheelbase, as the wheels of the Land Rover Defender 110 are 110 inches apart. In literature and some advertisements, Land Rover One Ten was spelled out. Over the past 35 years, it has earned a reputation for being a tough 4x4 machine.

It was and is among the few street-legal machines to have mechanical locking differentials. Naturally aspirated gas and diesel engines were offered, but they could not match the performance of the 2.5L turbo-diesel. It made the Land Rover Defender 110 able to crawl steep grades and haul heavy loads. A 5-speed manual transmission has a low 1st gear with 2nd to 5th being closer. This keeps the turbo readily available should the need arise.

Should you be interested in a used Land Rover Defender 110, please have it inspected by a Land Rover dealer. There have been several updates to the computer, chassis, and ventilation. Because the body is mostly aluminum, corrosion can happen where steel and aluminum meet. The entire frame is boxed and galvanized, something not seen on other SUVs until recently.

Driving a Defender is a fun experience. The beefy coil springs soak up uneven pavement, and 33" tires will grip in almost any situation. The large windows make for great visibility, and backlit VDO gauges are soft on the eyes at night. The odds of finding an original Land Rover Defender 110 are low because many owners chose to upgrade theirs to suit specific needs.

Customized examples of the Defender 110 include fire response, law enforcement, ranching, and backcountry transportation. An all-new Defender 110 was unveiled September 10th, 2019 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. With a starting price of $49,995 it is as beautiful and rugged as any predecessor.

The new Defender 110 will be joined by a smaller Defender 90 on the new D7x platform. They went above and beyond SUV testing procedures to ensure it was worthy to wear the Defender name. This 110 will arrive with optional 5+2 seating in four distinct “accessory packs”. These trim levels start with Explorer. It has a roof rack, fender guards, side gear carrier and spare tire cover.

Adventure Pack is a Defender 110 & ready for camping. It has a 1.7-gallon pressurized water tank for showers along with an onboard air compressor. Also on board is a 6.3-gallon seat/backpack to hold your gear. Country Pack has scuff plates, fender guards, and a floor-to-roof partition from the cargo area. Finally, Urban Pack is sleek and bright, with brushed scuff plates and a plush interior.
