The reveal of the new Bugatti Chiron—the long-awaited successor to the near-instant classic Veyron—has the automotive world in a frenzy. Bugatti gets to the point: "The Chiron is the world’s most powerful, fastest, most luxurious, and most exclusive production super sports car." A W16 petrol engine that’s been tuned with two-stage turbocharging delivers 1,500 hp, along with a substantial amount of torque from 2000-6000 RPM. It produces 1,180 lb-ft, which is monstrous. Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the Chiron appears to be an existential threat to any current world speed record, achieving up to 260 mph. It accelerates from 0-60 in under 2.5 seconds.

Bugatti has made many adjustments to the Chiron to give it even better handling than the Veyron. A new carbon-fiber monocoque is the foundation of improved structural strength and lightness; the new adaptive chassis forms an integrated linkage to enhance handling and the driving experience; the Chiron rolls on tires that Bugatti developed specifically for the car; and braking is managed by highly sophisticated systems featuring Formula One technical modules, ensuring that the Chiron stops on a dime—or perhaps even before.

With these five driving programs—Lift, EB & Autobahn, Handling, and Top Speed—the Chiron’s adaptive chassis is pre-tuned to suit any driving situation and excel under any acceleration, steering, braking, and shock circumstances, as described below:

  • Lift mode minimizes ground clearance to optimize power-assisted steering, chassis height, shock absorbers, four-wheel-drive mode, rear differential, the aerodynamic control system, the stability control system, and the brake control system to suit soft road conditions.
  • EB (named for Ettore Bugatti, the company's founder, not "electronic builder") is the mode preset for autobahn cruising. It optimizes the aforementioned systems to suit maximum speed under normal road conditions.
  • Handling mode presets the chassis, brakes, suspension, and power-assisted steering systems to optimize the Chiron’s handling on challenging roads with sharp bends that may require vital split-second corrections.
  • Top Speed prepares the car for record-breaking acceleration and controlled deceleration on specially prepared, smooth, and obstacle-free tracks. Here, the Chiron is at its absolute pinnacle of mechanical refinement and responsiveness.

Entering the Chiron, you are immersed in an environment of French luxury and high-tech design. The cockpit has been designed to be driver-oriented, with all switches to control its various systems within reach. The driver/passenger separation is marked by an illuminated C-bar that Bugatti describes as "the longest light conductor in the automotive industry," adorned with a menagerie of high-end materials including leather on the steering wheel, seats, and dash, and carbon fiber for visual contrast. Available in 21 colors for leather and eight for Alcantara, each Chiron can be uniquely tailored to its owner.

The Bugatti Chiron, as the zenith of automotive engineering and luxury, commands a price that reflects its unparalleled status in the world of super sports cars. The Bugatti Chiron price which hovers around $3 million is much cheaper than the current pre-owned market which sees prices closer to $4 million. This is partly due to the fact that Bugatti built the last base Chiron in September 2023.Â
