About This 1981 BMW M1
1981 BMW M1 Ferrari-Maserati of Fort Lauderdale is proud to present one of the most complete and unmolested examples of a BMW M1 known to exist! This BMW M1 was assembled on Series Order No. 274 and assigned VIN/Chassis No. *WBS599100* *04301348* and engine No. M88-389. It was sequentially the 348th of a planned 460 individual vehicles that were built beginning in July of 1978 and ending in March of 1981. While 460 units were schedule to be built in the end the most accurate sources site a total production of not more than 440 examples. Of these 399 were allocated to be normal production road-cars with the remaining being built for test purposes or racing in the ProCar series. This particular M1 on offer here today is a normal European Specification example completed on October 13th 1980. It was ordered new by BMW Italia S.p.A. Palazzolo and completed for them in Inka Orange with a standard black leather and cloth interior. This M1 was retained by BMW Italia S.p.A. until January of 1984 when it was finally sold new to a Japanese private museum collection. It was road-registered in Japan in early 1984 and over the next 30 years taken out of the collection strictly for routine services and maintenance and for various shows and speciality events. During that time frame the car accumulated approximately 250 miles per year of use when taken to these various shows and during the annual service and maintenance work. Today this M1 has covered only 7980 total miles from new and it is largely regarded as one of the most original and correct examples known to still exist.
