1956 AC Ace-Bristol: One of Only 686 Ace-Bristols Produced This 1956 AC Ace-Bristol is one of only 686 Ace-Bristols produced and is ACs definitive sports car. Blue with black leather. Original colors metallic blue with black. In excellent running condition. The most desirable Ace variant. Produced pre-1957 making it eligible for the Mille Miglia and many other events (production date Sept 4 1956). Comes with a correct AC Bristol engine (matching number head, non matching block), original gearbox and many spares. Currently running with a Ford 6 cylinder engine, much the same as the AC Ace from 1962/63. Offered with original tools and manuals. An excellent event car that's eligible for the most desirable tours.  The Ace-Bristol's high-revving, state-of-the-art power unit could trace its origins back to BMWs advanced pre-war 328 design, which helped make it successful in racing well into the 1960s. Bristol-powered Aces were brilliant in competition, winning three successive SCCA E-Production Championships between 1957 and 1959, followed by D-Production Championship in 1960 and C-Production Championship in 1961. The Ace-Bristol also scored very well at Le Mans, where it finished 2nd in class in 1957 and 1958 and achieved a sterling class victory and 7th overall in 1959. This performance no doubt left an impression on 1959 Le Mans winner Carroll Shelby, who later created his own 289 and 427 Shelby Cobra derivatives based on the classic AC Ace. 1958 AC Aceca-Bristol with Matching Numbers The very first AC Aceca fitted with a Bristol engine 122 BHP D2 First registered in summer of 1958, this AC Aceca-Bristol is fully matching numbers including its original engine, gearbox, and chassis. The car further benefits from known ownership history, having resided with the second owner from 1966 until 2005 before changing hands to the previous owner. The car was partially disassembled in 1967, and remained so until the culmination of an extensive, sympathetic, high-quality restoration effort in 2014. During restoration it was discovered that the engine had already been rebuilt by Bristol, and that the chassis had been modified to accept Jaguar Mk II wheelsthis charming quirk was deemed to have historical value and is the car's only notable deviation from standard specification. Now delivering a dyno-tuned 134 hp, the car was entered in 2015's AC Owners Club National Concours and promptly won first place within the Aceca Classsubsequent 2016, 2017, and 2018 wins cemented its lofty reputation among AC marque enthusiasts and lovers of fine vintage sports cars, worldwide.As a hardtop version of the AC Ace, the fastback-styled Aceca Coupe debuted at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1954. The Aceca's hatchback body was constructed in hand-formed aluminum over a tubular steel framework, while the tubular chassis was more substantially built than the Ace's. The result was a well-engineered, light in weight and extremely pretty GT car in the best AC tradition. Very few alterations were made to the Ace and Aceca apart from a change of engine for 1956 when the more-powerful 2.0-liter Bristol six-cylinder engine became available. The combination of a fine-handling chassis and a power-to-weight ratio helped the Ace version to numerous successes in production sports car racing, arguably its finest achievement being a 1st-in-class and 7th overall finish at Le Mans in 1959.Chassis no.
