In 2007, a new flagship supercar was confirmed to be in the works featuring either a V10 or a V6 significantly altered from the original powerplant. The new 2017 Acura NSX for sale concept is produced in the United States and will be available in 2016 with the V6 engine configuration and a price tag of $155,000. Derived from the F-1 used by the company, the new supercar V6 retains the longitudinally mounted mid-engine layout but adds three additional electric motors for increased hybrid power, acceleration, and fuel economy. A roadster version of the second generation may be available in the future if anything is to be gleaned from the 2012 SEMA auto show concept.


In 1989, a new type of supercar was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show and it changed the world of supercars. Designed and built by Honda and distributed as an Acura in the North American market, the Honda NSX was built for all other markets, the first generation was engineered to compete with the Italian supercars. With production beginning in 1990 and a price starting at $60,000, the sports car was built as a formidable and affordable performance machine until its temporary discontinuation in 2004. Featuring an all-aluminum monocoque and body, the first generation was as much a performance car as it was a feat of engineering. Designed with a cabin-forward, rear engine design, the car took its inspiration from the F-16 fighter jet and other cutting-edge examples of technology. With even weight distribution, excellent ergonomics, and visibility, a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds, and a top speed of 168-175 mph depending on production year, the car became immediately popular with enthusiasts.


Designed with a 3.0-liter V6 that topped out at an 8,000 rpm redline and generated 270 hp, the car packed performance, reliability, and economy in equal parts. In 2002, another 20 hp was added, a facelift and a few other minor modifications to suit the new millennium.


This new production model is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine that provides 573 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, receiving power from an all-new three electric motor Sport-Hybrid system. The extra power from the electric hybrid system makes for blistering acceleration and an estimated top speed of 191 mph.


A new nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is paired with a direct drive hybrid motor/generator. Power is stored in a lithium-ion battery mounted low in the chassis. This energy is channeled to the front wheels by a Twin Motor Unit (TMU). Powering each front wheel independently, it can induce yaw while cornering to provide incredible lateral grip.


The new supercar is comprised of multiple materials, including aluminum, carbon fiber and ultra-high strength steel. In areas where extra safety is needed, high-strength steel has implemented, as to make it safer than ever before.


Grounding the new hybrid are ContiSportContact™ high-performance tires, with 245/35Z R19 in the front and 295/30Z R20 in the rear. These tires are fitted to 19×8.5 inch wheels in the front and 20×11 inch wheels in the rear.


“Our an all-new sports car that is true to the heritage of a supercar that delivers a new driving experience, one where every part of the vehicle is respectful of the smartest part of the car, the driver,” said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president and general manager of the division, in a press release introducing the car. The new car is comprised of multiple materials, including aluminum, carbon fiber and ultra-high strength steel. Sharing almost no components with Acura’s other production models, this represents the culmination of countless engineering efforts and years of development. Being the halo car for one of the largest automakers is a tall order to fill. So in order to ensure quality, a dedicated production line at Honda’s Marysville, Ohio plant is ready to roll.


We have been teased long enough, and now the new car appears to be ready for launch. As the official Pace Car of the 2015 Pike’s Peak Hill Climb, the brand's latest supercar used twin turbos and three electric motors to scorch the treacherous trail. This new production model is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine mated to a nine-speed dual clutch transmission. The supercar also receives power from an all-new, three electric motor Sport-Hybrid (SH) system. The front wheels receive power or braking from two electric motors while the third is inside the rear-mounted transmission.


After nearly a 10-year hiatus, the Japanese supercar is here, from returning to take its place as Acura’s halo car. Although technical details are scarce at this point, this much is known: the new NSX will still sport a mid-mounted V-6 engine like its predecessor and will be on the market by 2015. Unlike the last car, which was rear wheel drive only, the new car will feature a Sport-Hybrid SH-AWD system (Super Handling All Wheel Drive). Coupled with a next-generation VTEC V-6 (featuring direct injection at last) and a paddle-shifted dual clutch transmission, the two electric motors up front help provide added thrust in cornering and low-traction conditions. These motors should also help boost the cars eco-cred, setting it apart from other high-end sports cars in the $100,000-and-up stratosphere. Of course, the vehicle will also need plenty of power to back up its futuristic, low-slung looks. We’d hope to see at least 400 hp on tap, possibly more if the new car hopes to keep up with similarly powered 911s and Audi R8s.


Acura NSX Type R - After more than twenty years, Acura once again launches an NSX with the coveted Type R model badge. The new NSX Type R is a supercar designed purely with performance in mind. Taking inspiration from the NSX GT3 model race car, this revamped model features a drastically reduced curb weight, a stripped interior, and a beefed-up engine. While the exterior appears to be like that of the former NSX model, it will feature the inclusion of more carbon fiber components with a focus on aerodynamics to enhance speed and overall performance. Along with these alterations, the Type R will incorporate an all-new suspension system, lightweight brakes, a larger splitter and premium tires. Harnessing the power of a biturbo 3.5-liter V6 engine with a 641-horsepower output and 500 lb-ft of torque, the NSX Type R will boast an impressive 0-60 acceleration speed of 3.0 seconds. While the top speed will remain comparable to that of the base NSX models, with the same set of three electric motors, the Type R model will have a noticeable higher cornering speed. As for the interior, the cabin will be a more bare-bones version of the latest base NSX model. With less of a focus on comfort and luxury, the Type R will instead place weight reduction and distribution at the top of their list of priorities. In turn, this means that the carbon fiber seats will be less padded through a TFT screen and integrated control dial-up system are noted.
