To be OFFERED AT AUCTION at Worldwide Auctioneers' The Auburn Auction, August 28-28.  The 1970 Plymouth AAR 'Cuda is one of the more distinctive and purpose-built models of the muscle car era. Built to homologate Plymouth's participation in the SCCA Trans Am racing series, the AAR (All American Racers) 'Cuda was a one-year-only model that combined aggressive styling with real performance pedigree. Named after Dan Gurney's All American Racers team, which campaigned Plymouth Barracudas in the Trans Am series, the AAR 'Cuda was a bold statement of Plymouth's racing ambitions.    Under the hood, every AAR 'Cuda came equipped with a 340-cubic-inch V-8 engine topped by a trio of two-barrel carburetors, producing 290 horsepower and 345 foot-pounds of torque. This engine, paired with either a four-speed manual or a TorqueFlite automatic transmission, delivered quick acceleration and high-revving character that made it a thrill to drive. A unique side-exit exhaust system and performance-tuned suspension made the AAR stand apart from standard 'Cudas, both in sound and handling.    Visually, the AAR 'Cuda was unmistakable. It featured a fiberglass fresh-air hood with a large scoop, bold 'strobe' side stripes, and a ducktail rear spoiler. Plymouth offered the car in a striking palette of 'High Impact' colors such as Tor Red, Lemon Twist, Sublime, Vitamin C, and In-Violet, along with more subtle shades. The example here is finished in Tor Red, one of the most iconic and eye-catching hues available. With only around 2,724 AAR 'Cudas produced, these cars remain highly sought-after by collectors today. The combination of Trans Am racing heritage, limited production, bold styling, and high-revving small-block power makes the 1970 AAR 'Cuda a standout among classic muscle cars and an enduring symbol of Mopar performance.    Finished in its original factory shade of EV2 Tor Red over a black upholstered interior that was restored in 2023, this 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda draws attention wherever its driven. Its stance is complete with a flat black fresh-air fiberglass hood with locking pins, factory rear window louvers, iconic strobe stripe graphics, and 15-inch Rallye wheels paired with Goodyear Polyglas GT tires.    Under the hood lurks a 290 horsepower 340-cubic-inch V-8 engine topped with a six-barrel carburetor set up that was engineered to tear down the blacktop pavement. Paired with a four-speed manual transmission with a Hurst pistol-grip shifter, an 8-3/4-inch rear axle, and power brakes, it begs to be driven. And even though it is equipped with a radio, you most likely won't be needing it, as the sound from the side-exit exhaust pipe will be more than sufficient for one's auditory pleasure.    This AAR 'Cuda isn't just a rare piece of Mopar history, it's a true driver's car, built to deliver excitement on both the street and the track. Its combination of bold styling, race-bred engineering, and single-year production makes it a nice addition to any muscle car collection. Owning a car like this means preserving a key chapter in American performance history, where racing passion directly shaped what rolled off the showroom floor.
