1960 Chrysler Imperial

Make no mistake, this is the rarest of rare cars in the best of best conditions.
Making a bold statement, this car has the distinction of winning the prestigious Best of Show award at the National Motor Museum's 2018 Bay to Birdwood historic motoring event competing against the best restored cars of Australia in a field of over 1700 cars. One of 618 produced, no other example would be in as good a condition as this car; it is the best of the best and would have no peer. This car is breathtakingly beautiful; two side views shown with black background are un-retouched photos of actual car.
This car has travelled only 2,900 miles following a thoroughly exhaustive, fully detailed, body-off-chassis, bare metal, fastidiously performed 24-year restoration completed in 2013.
Meticulous attention to detail has left no stone unturned in a quest to bring this car back to better than new condition, all the while being mindful to maintain patina, accuracy, and authenticity. This car has been thoroughly road tested, with all panel gaps and components examined and re-examined for tightness, perfect alignment, pin-point accuracy, and flawless fit and finish. Many highly skilled craftsmen and artisans labored on two continents to perform painstakingly accurate work on this magnificent car. Some of these workers have since either passed away or retired in the intervening period so it would be impossible to repeat their handiwork in any other restoration to this exacting standard. An example of the exacting standards was extensive research undertaken to achieve authenticities such as the way extra care was taken to investigate all resources for exact seat pleat pattern replication, correct thread color, correct thread gauge and the use of correct “trench” stitching; resulting in all pleats aligning with utmost precision. Another example of many painstaking processes to maintain attention to detail may be demonstrated by a unique 62-tooth drive cog inside the electric aerial assembly. The original hydro-scopically prone nylon cog had deformed after fifty years of atmospheric water absorption resulting in impossible to find replacement parts due to ALL aerial internal parts from ALL Imperials suffering a similar fate. The concealed cog in this Imperial was machined from high strength and dimensionally stable bronze and would most likely be the only properly functioning electrically operated Imperial aerial still known to exist. Similarly, many other examples abound of extraordinary fastidiousness being performed to resurrect this extraordinary vehicle.
Bodywork restoration was initially undertaken in Detroit Michigan U.S.A. by metal fabricators experienced in making General Motors' prototypes, followed by ex-Chrysler Australia Limited experimental section employees experienced in fabricating pilot-line prototypes and one-off show cars.
This car has the most desirable color scheme of Regal Red acrylic exterior paint with pearl white leather interior and “record groove” silver and black accents. It is a highly optioned car loaded with all factory offered features.
The body has absolutely NO RUST whatsoever and NO DENTS, BLEMISHES or IMPERFECTIONS. All acidic-prone lead body seam fillers have been removed and replaced with a minimum amount of epoxy resin. All internal metal surfaces including inside chassis rail components were coated with multiple thick layers of protective Valvoline Tectyl 506 heavy duty rust and anti-corrosion preventative wax. All body panel gaps, fit and finish are absolutely perfect. The factory correct Regal Red multi-layered acrylic lacquer paint was meticulously applied and thoroughly hand rubbed between each coat (closely replicating the original 1960 factory paint application procedure) resulting in the most exciting combination offered for 1960 Imperials. The paint finish is flawless, mirror-like, glass smooth and looks a mile deep. The interior consisting of beautiful shimmering pearl white leather interior seats done in the correct pattern, door panels, sun visors, armrests, and convertible top storage well, set off with spectacularly contrasting black deep cut-pile carpet and door tops, a new softly padded dashboard and a new convertible top cover boot, together with di-electrically embossed silver “record groove” upper door panels. This ensemble is complemented with a white high-quality Haartz top with re-manufactured bronze and Noryl plastic bearing components to maintain total silence emanating from all of the top mechanism pivot points.
This car has only been hand cleaned using water-less cleaning systems and micro-fiber clothes and only driven in good weather. It has only been stored in totally dry climate controlled conditions since its total restoration.
All exterior chrome and stainless trim pieces follow body contours precisely and with perfectly even gaps through-out. The exterior is beautifully complemented by the gorgeous hand-crafted interior using the highest quality specially selected top-grain hides, displaying zero blemishes, and tanned and burnished to a beautiful “pearl white” high luster finish. No one has smoked cigarettes or cigars in this car, nor have pets or young children been permitted to ride in it.
This car includes FACTORY PERIOD CORRECT options including integral air-conditioning, power vent windows, power windows, 6-way power seat, Flite-sweep deck-lid, square steering wheel, tri-tone horns, power door locks, floor button controlled self seeking radio, cruise-control, automatic dipping head lights, remote driver's side mirror, chrome sill moldings and automatic front door activated swivel seats. The moment either front door opens, the smoothly operating swivel seats rotate to greet passengers, proving an invitation to experience a ride that is truly special and magical.
It would be challenged to find another 1960 Imperial convertible in this exceptionally perfect condition. These cars were made in a new specifically designed manufacturing facility to produce cars at an exceedingly slow assembly line rate which gave workers ample opportunity to make these cars America's most carefully built automobiles in 1960. The nearly bullet-proof “Golden Lion” 413 cubic inch wedge-head engine was in its second year of production and was thoroughly proven as one of Chrysler's most reliable and enduring engines; the same sentiment applying to the “nearly indestructible” tried and true cast-iron bodied “727” Torqueflite automatic gearbox which was in its fourth year of production by 1960.
Every nut, bolt, screw, and washer was stripped clean, examined and refurbished to as, or better than, new condition. Great attention to detail was given to make this the “newest” 1960 Imperial convertible in the world; it even has a new-car smell - it's the newest 1960 Imperial convertible in the world. This car has to be the very best and correct 1960 Imperial convertible offered for many years.
The engine has been blueprinted, balanced, boiled, X-rayed, Magna-fluxed and totally rebuilt using new components to run on unleaded fuel. It's an instantly responsive engine with huge reserves of surging power that propels this car in regal-like majesty. This car is overwhelming to behold; it takes spectators', other drivers' and pedestrians' breath away whenever it glides past them; this car has a commanding presence wherever it goes.
All brake, suspension and undercarriage components have either been completely restored or replaced with new parts. The underside is like new. The dashboard and all its component parts and gauges were removed from the body, completely overhauled, bench tested before being replaced into the car.
With a full factory correct stainless steel dual exhaust system with new stainless steel twin mufflers, resonators and hangers manufactured by Waldron's Exhausts in Detroit, this car travels in total silence when the engine is running at idle or at higher RPM's. There is no wind noise, no road noise and its smoothness has to be experienced to be believed when cruising at high speed. The highly lauded and justifiably famous automatic push button three-speed Torque-Flite transmission shifts gears with total silence and is imperceptibly smooth as it transmits the enormous torque potential of the 413 cubic inch (6.7 liter) engine.
This is the most desirable of 1950's-60's American automobiles, possessing the most desirable body style in the most desirable exterior and interior color combination, from the most desirable Mopar year. This automobile is considered high art and is a form of rolling sculpture ready to be enjoyed with pride. It commands attention with its presence and is a rare opportunity to own and enjoy an extremely rare example of a stunningly designed tour-de-force.
Much research of factory sourced information has culminated in the superlative reconstruction of a completely original, high quality, low mileage Imperial convertible. Every effort has been made to return this car back to as-new condition. This is a highly sought example of a much-desired automobile. This very distinctive and exclusive automobile of unqualified, unparalleled and unique pedigree is offered globally for your driving pleasure, your great sense of enjoyment and your thorough pride of ownership.
