1933 Lincoln K

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Amelia Island event, 22 May 2021. Estimate:$250,000 - $300,000 USD One of just fifteen produced; among the very best-known survivorsOwned by only two devoted families in the last 55 yearsStill with its original engine and coachwork, as listed in factory build recordsExcellent older restoration with well-maintained professional cosmetic fresheningClassic Car Club of America (CCCA) Full Classic Nineteen thirty-three saw the introduction of numerous enhancements for Lincoln's superb Model KB, including a revised and improved chassis, thermostatic shock absorbers, a new transmission, and adjustable-pressure four-wheel brakes, as well as subtly skirted fenders that debuted early in the season. Only 533 KBs were made this year, including fifteen as the handsome "semi-custom" Convertible Sedan by Dietrich, style number 261, featuring clean and beautifully proportioned lines accented by a convex beltline molding and Dietrich's signature opening vee'd windshield. The Convertible Sedan offered here is confirmed by the original build records, held by the Henry Ford, to retain its original Dietrich coachwork and engine with which it was shipped on 9 July 1933. Further history is known back to William and Shara Adams of Camillus, New York, who are believed to have acquired it at some time in the 1950s. In 1966 it was shown by Mrs. Adams at the CCCA Annual Meeting at Buck Hill Falls, winning its Primary First Prize.Later that year, the KB was sold to Pat Quail of Bettendorf, Iowa. A future president of both the CCCA and the Lincoln Owners Club, and recognized expert on prewar Lincolns, he often referred to KB2284 as being the finest tour car he had ever owned. The car remained active in the hobby throughout the 1960s and 1970s, making countless appearances in club and touring events, while achieving its CCCA Senior First Prize and an AACA First Prize. Due to Mr. Quail's failing health, it was not driven after the late 1970s but was always kept in climate-controlled storage and well-loved by his family. In 2009 it was freshened and triumphantly returned to CCCA competition and in the Custom Senior division achieved a First Place at the Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, in 2011-testament to the quality of the original restoration. The current owner acquired the car from the Quail Family in 2012, adding it to a superb collection of rare and significant Full Classics with custom coachwork, each carefully selected over the last five decades. RM Auto Restoration refinished the body and fitted a new top and canvas trunk covering, after which the Lincoln proudly appeared at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2013. It has not been shown since but has enjoyed continued good care, and remains in beautiful condition, ready for continued show appearances or a new chapter of CARavan touring with its next proud caretaker. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at
