Given Portsmouth, New Hampshire's nautical tradition, impeccably preserved architecture and mixture of small-town feel and upscale culture, it's no wonder that the National Trust for Historic Preservation named the city one of its "Dozen Distinctive Destinations."
A visit to the Historic Strawberry Banke Museum will trace a nearly 375-year history of this seacoast town. Want more history? In 1774, Paul Revere rode to Portsmouth warning that the British were coming.
Today's Portsmouth is quaint but classy, just 45 minutes from Boston, Portland, Maine, and Manchester, New Hampshire. Portsmouth has a busy summer tourist season, but is also a year-round city. "It's very much a walking town," says Martha Baroody, a real estate specialist for Paul McInnis, Inc., a local real estate company serving the greater seacoast for almost 30 years. "There are restaurants and bars on the waterfront; the tugboats and ships that navigate through the river are truly amazing. You can sit near the water and look out across the Piscataqua River and there's Maine. It's a very lively waterfront."

Paul McInnis, Inc. has begun marketing a highly appealing, yet-to-be-built condominium development that will let its residents take full advantage of everything the lively town has to offer - including museums, parks and events - all within a leisurely stroll. The condos are also a short drive to the Rye beaches, the plush Wentworth by the Sea Hotel and the Wentworth Marina in New Castle, New Hampshire. Pier II, as the four-unit project is called, sits right on the water and each unit includes two parking spaces. A private dock space is an option for homeowners. "The waterfront residences will range from about 2,100 to 3,500 square feet each," Martha says. "And it will be raw space, which is exciting for people because they can effectively design their own living space. Homeowners can use our construction team and architects - or use their own, as long as they follow certain guidelines."
Pier II's plans include a common rooftop deck for residents, equipped with a kitchenette and bar and flanked by lush green gardens. Martha says, "Pier II would be perfect home for someone looking for maintenance-free living in downtown Portsmouth."
