Elk River Club Blends Community with Natural Grandeur

Located in Banner Elk, North Carolina and nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Elk River offers a variety of activities for bringing together family and friends. Boasting a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf course that consistently ranks among the state's Top 10 courses, golf is certainly the main attraction. However, that is only the beginning of all Elk River has to offer.

Residents and visitors have the luxury of arriving to Elk River via private jet or corporate aircraft, accommodated by the 4,600-ft. on-site jet port. The 50,000-square-foot clubhouse complex stuns with elegant custom interiors. Surrounding the clubhouse are sweeping mountain views. Atop the mountain sits the Saddle Club equestrian center, accompanied by miles of tree-lined riding trails through the elevations.

Also available to residents are the Wellness and Fitness Center, complete with Nautilus equipment, saunas and a heated pool, and the comprehensive Tennis Center. Dedicated park areas with cascading streams and long range views of the beautiful Blue Ridge adorn the property. A Class-A stocked catch and release trout fishing river sits adjacently, proving there is truly something every member of the family will enjoy.

“Our outstanding amenities and community, combined with the natural scenic beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, provides the perfect setting for families to gather closer - to create memories that turn into traditions, and legacies that last for generations,” says Rick Foster, president of Elk River Realty.

Stately homes tucked along the rolling hillsides offer breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, cascading mountain streams, shimmering lakes and of course the immaculately groomed fairways. Residents can look across the layered mountains deep into eastern Tennessee from Elk River’s Sunset Park, altitude 4,750 feet.

The community’s design blends perfectly into the natural beauty and contour of the Carolina mountain landscape. Here, daytime summer temperatures average in the 70s and summer evenings bring comfortable temperatures in the 50s.

It’s no wonder Jack Nicklaus selected Elk River as the site for his first North Carolina Signature Golf Course. It was the perfect setting for the perfect plan to blend a North Carolina Top Ten course into a community of exquisite natural beauty.

Sprawling Waterfront Estate

John-Mark M. Mitchell is selling a haute property. It is the last of the Legacy Estates and this is the first time it has ever been offered to the public. Spanning more than 189 picturesque acres, the estate’s owners placed objects of art on the property as a reflection of their love for the creativity of man. Marketing a unique estate is not an unusual event for Mitchell, the number one luxury home specialist in North Carolina’s “Triad” region. Wayne Yarbrough, the Broker in Charge of Mitchell Prime Properties and the co-marketer of the estate, believes this is the finest property ever offered in the Triad area. The landscaping was conceptualized by Mr. Brooks Wingington, the landscape architect who designed Wheeling Park in West Virginia. Mr. Roy Wallace of Winston-Salem, who conceived many of the area’s large estates, was the architect. The estate encompasses a 9,000+-square-foot main home with breathtaking details, including a 150-year-old Waterford crystal chandelier, as well as a boat house with guest accommodations and a 22-acre lake.

Mitchell is all about being in real estate’s forefront. He has been profiled numerous times, recognized by Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate International and was recently lionized as a “game changer” by Fortune Magazine in January 2016; the only real estate firm owner to be featured. Fitting, as a lion named Mitch is his company logo.

Mitchell’s boutique firm of 16 luxury agents has average sales that are almost double the competition. “I try not to create followers in this company,” says Mitchell. “I like to hire people that would be successful on their own -- I like to be a lion trainer in the business.”

Hear them roar.

In the early 90s, as Kim Pritchard’s friends began buying their first homes, she noticed something strange. “My friends were handed long lists of properties and told to drive around and let the agents know which ones they were interested in.”

This approach did not sit well with Pritchard. “They were not being taken seriously and were given very low quality of service.” Her dedication to customer service prompted a career in real estate.

Pritchard is especially skilled in marketing and negotiating, and loves listing homes for her clients. She’s been the top-producing agent in the West Cobb office for the past 10 years and is in the top 1% of the company of more than 1,500 agents. Additionally, Pritchard was featured in Atlanta Magazine’s August 2013 and 2014 issues as a top area real estate agent.

Just a 30-minute drive to downtown Atlanta, Cobb County is a convenient location, with access to three major expressways and an international airport.

“I live, shop, dine and entertain here. My son goes to school here, and I believe it’s one of the best areas to live in,” Pritchard says.

Located in the prestigious Barrett Greene neighborhood at 2111 Ector Place is an exquisite new listing with a gorgeous redbrick exterior, hardwood floors throughout and three fireplaces.

The entire space has been custom designed by an interior designer, and includes the finest of finishes. The home, which is more than 6,000-square-feet in size, features six bedrooms and six and a half bathrooms, as well as a finished basement.

Scott Cosby

Before becoming a Realtor in 2005, Scott Cosby moved 27 times on three continents experiencing a variety of cultures and environments. "I've always had a passion for real estate and working with people. It was a great fit," Cosby says. "I don't really like the label ‘Salesperson’ because I see this business as more of a service, in which we listen carefully and help our clients meet their real estate dreams and expectations." Cosby’s insight into life in Coweta County is an invaluable asset to his clients and a great compliment toward ensuring they find the perfect home. Quality of life in Coweta is superior, with close proximity to downtown Atlanta and the Hartfield-Jackson International Airport. "The City of Homes" is filled with character, charm and innovative growth in the medical, filming and manufacturing industries. Newnan includes a gorgeous, active downtown area surrounded by five historic districts dating pre-Civil War, as well as new, state-of-the-art medical facilities, restaurants, shopping and much more. Like its surrounding town, Newnan’s estate at 396 Sullivan Road is rich in history. Its first manifestation was an 1846 farmhouse, built when Newnan was one of the wealthiest per capita cities in America. It was recreated in 1988, burned down in 2006 and then resurrected again into a traditional Georgia plantation with some of the original brickwork still intact. The beautiful 5 acre, 6,005 square-foot golf course estate is ideally located in the heart of the Newnan White Oak area. Its proximity offers prospective buyers easy access, while providing privacy and serenity.

Carlton’s emphasis in customer service landed him the prestigious Angie’s List Super Service Award seven years in a row, and he’s the second highest rated real estate agent on Angie’s List. Additionally, he’s a lifelong member of the Better Homes and Gardens Metro Brokers Hall of Fame and Millionaire’s Club.

Before entering the real estate industry, Kay Fulp spent her weekends attending open houses and driving past homes for sale. It was the office joke that if anyone was looking for a home, Fulp was the best resource for information. In 2003, Fulp gave up her office job to become a real estate agent. A natural, Fulp was named the top agent in her office just six months after starting her career. “I love working with people,” Fulp states. “Listening to my clients and helping them find the right home is something I just love to do.” A top agent with Better Homes and Gardens Metro Brokers, Fulp focuses on dedication to her clients. This year Fulp’s success grew into a team, the Kay Fulp Team, which she heads to ensure she’s able to stay on top of rising real estate demands. Fayette County, Georgia is one of the top 10 best places to live thanks to its rich quality of life, beautiful greenery, second-to-none climate and endless amenities. The area is also known as “Little Hollywood,” thanks to Dan Cathy’s instrumental influence in bringing a major film company presence to the area. Pinewood Studios purchased 2,000 acres in the area and opened their first American-based site. The site is home to the Marvel brand, and is where major films like Antman, Captain America and Superman were brought to life. Fulp currently has a custom-built, sprawling estate situated on five acres of pristine Fayetteville land listed. The nearly 10,000-square-foot property features eight bedrooms, six full bathrooms and two half bathrooms. The grand and majestic gated property is poised for entertaining with two gourmet kitchens and a covered porch with accommodations for 100 guests.

Affluent Seaside Community

There’s something special about living in Jupiter, and if anybody understands that, it’s Ken and Kandyce Meierling. The license Partners and Brokers of luxury real estate firm Engel & Völkers Jupiter have lived around the world – from Germany and England to Belize and Hong Kong. But they couldn’t imagine a better slice of paradise than this affluent, yet quaint seaside community on the east coast of Florida.

“Life in Jupiter is easygoing and low-key, yet there's access to plenty of luxury amenities,” says Ken. Nestled just north of Palm Beach and about 1 ½ hours north of Miami, Jupiter is home to some of the nation’s finest championship golf courses, unspoiled beaches and world-class shopping. The neighboring enclave of Jupiter Island, an exquisite 17-mile private sanctuary of tropical beauty, is renowned for its landmark waterfront estates. The area attracts many who could own  property anywhere.

A former investment banker and M&A advisor to global corporations, Ken was intrigued by the multifaceted world of real estate. “This industry offers me exciting challenges and the chance to connect with extraordinary individuals from all over the world,” says Ken, who opened the Engel & Völkers Jupiter property shop in 2007. “Coming from a business background, I look at real estate a little differently,” he says. “I love the ‘deal-making’ aspect of every transaction.”

Ken and Kandyce recently negotiated the sale of the highest-priced residential property on Jupiter Island: for $38 million. Privately marketed, the sale of the 9.4-acre property with a main residence and separate beach house closed within seven months, thanks to Ken’s business sense and global connections. “While Jupiter Island has long been a getaway for some of the world’s most accomplished, our record-breaking sale put Jupiter Island on the radar as an ultra-high end market, as opposed to the luxury market that it always has been.” Ken and Kandyce are currently representing another stunning $32 million oceanfront property known locally as “Villa La Renaissance.”

Ken and Kandyce Meierling have put Jupiter and Jupiter Island on the international real estate map. As Kandyce puts it, “These beautiful seaside towns have opened their hearts to us, and Ken and I look forward to connecting more clients with this extraordinary lifestyle we enjoy.”

Architectural Grandeur

In 1917, at the time it was begun, Ropsley was considered a small country estate. Sheltered behind stone walls and set on four magnificently landscaped and wooded acres, the home has the aspect of a French chateau, albeit one with a delightfully quirky English sprawl and ornamented with hints of Italy.

Designed by award-winning architects Mellor, Meigs and Howe, who also created the Concert Hall at Bryn Mawr College, this home was considered a showcase for their home and garden designs.

“This is a significant estate in an area of significant houses – one of the top five in the area,” says Michael Sivel of the Sivel Group, Fine Homes Specialists for Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Fox & Roach Realtors. Located just outside of Chestnut Hill, “this was an area that attracted well-to-do Philadelphians that wanted to be out of downtown, but have easy access by train.” It still does.

There’s a history here, romantic and just a little scandalous. When the original owner’s widow married Edgar Allen Poe’s nephew, the home became known as Poe House. It was later purchased by a pair of embezzlers, affectionately known as “The Boys.”

The current owners, says Sivel, “breathed new life into the place,” undertaking extensive renovations in 1992, while preserving museum quality details like the living room’s beamed ceiling, walk-in fireplace and hand-carved mantel.

The rooms “are generously scaled,” he says. “The dining room would easily seat fifty.”  There are six to eight bedrooms, depending on whether you require a writing room—or one of several other rather retro spaces.

Outside, linden trees line a path, their heady fragrance mingling with the wisteria along the patio’s pergola. Peonies and azaleas fill formal gardens. A gazebo, set back in the trees, overlooks the 25 by 50-foot swimming pool. Magnificent fountains can be seen from the drawing room; others are scattered about the property.

Set beside the goldfish pond is the “Little House,” a guest cottage.  The original carriage house was converted into a separate guest dwelling as well, and the main house has a self-contained in-law suite.

One could get lost in such privacy.
