Equestrian & Ranch Living: A Horse Lovers' Haven

By Natalie Watson

Asheville, North Carolina is arguably one of the best kept secrets in the United States. Between stunning views along the Blue Ridge Parkway, unlimited amounts of outdoor recreational activities and irresistible seasons, it’s hard to deny the inclination to put down roots and start a new adventure here. Not only is Asheville an outdoor enthusiast’s haven – there are riding trails, hiking, camping, climbing and mountain biking opportunities throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains – it’s also a very environmentally conscious place to live. Asheville receives annual accolades from: “Beer City USA” to “Greatest Destination Food Towns in America” to the “World's Friendliest Cities”.

Tyron International Equestrian Center & Resort is the newest equine attraction in the area, offering exciting year-round activities and a variety of accommodation options. The best part of owning an equestrian property in North Carolina is the opportunity to explore hundreds of miles of stunning scenery on horseback. Because of this, people are drawn from all over the world to enjoy equestrian properties in the Asheville area. However, with the strength of the real estate market, quality horse properties are becoming harder to find.

1239 Cane Creek Road is perfectly located in the idyllic and highly desirable Cane Creek Valley. This private, gated, 41-plus acre equestrian estate features amazing year-round mountain views, a barn, riding ring, trails, fenced pastures, a creek and pond. The recently renovated main farmhouse has views from almost every room and two master suites. There is an office, log cabin, two apartments and more. This is where the mountains meet the meadows.

“We have a little something for everyone and I am sure you can find whatever your heart desires,” says Billy Taylor, Broker Associate with Beverly-Hanks & Associates Realtors. “This is a great place that offers not only an unmatched quality of life but is also an unforgettable place to visit.”

West Coast of Florida: Lakeland

By Cathleen McCann

You really can have it all in Central Florida. Enjoy luxury living at its finest with the added bonus of proximity to some of Florida’s best beaches on either coast, giving you many options and a high quality of life.

“People come to Lakeland to be centrally located yet removed from overcrowded urban areas,” says Leonard Mass, Vice President of Land Development/Florida for Oakbridge Realty in Lakeland, Florida. Close to both the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of Florida with many beautiful beaches to choose from, Lakeland is less than an hour from Tampa and Orlando.

One of the most prestigious communities in Central Florida is Grasslands Golf & Country Club, the only private golf and country club in Lakeland. Plentiful recreational opportunities for the whole family to enjoy include a nationally recognized 18-hole championship golf course, Junior Olympic-size pool, five hydra-clay and two hard tennis courts. PGA golf and USPTA professionals are available to provide top-notch instruction.

The Sanctuary is the premier location within Grasslands. Comprised of forty-six Tuscan-style estate villas, each with gated portico courtyard entrances, this maintenance-free community allows you to sit back and enjoy your luxuriously appointed residence. Most homes have waterfront vistas or overlook the 17th and 18th holes of Grasslands.

The “Albarella” model in The Sanctuary won “Home of the Year” by the Polk County Builders Association and took top prize in multiple categories. In addition to the Albarella, the Bellagio and Cortina are the other home models available at The Sanctuary. Square footage for The Sanctuary homes ranges from 3,289 to 4,817.

Each home has top-of-the-line features and the impressive list of amenities offered includes fireplaces, outdoor summer kitchens and custom-designed wine cellars. Oversized garages accommodate two cars plus room for a golf cart, motorcycle or sports car.

Prices start in the low $700,000s. “This is the last opportunity for people to be part of this community,” says Mass. “There are only a limited number of homes left.”

West Coast of Florida: Anna Maria Island

By Ely Grinfield

With an abundance of sunshine and winding waterways, Anglers' Cove is a new luxury development in Southwest Florida that will catch the eye of those looking for exclusive scenic homes. Situated on Anna Maria Island, Anglers' Cove exemplifies the accessible, tranquil setting of Florida's west coast while capitalizing on the wealth of activities and culture in the Sarasota area. Above all, Anglers' Cove is for those whose hearts belong at sea.

“For the boater, you are about five minutes from Tampa Bay and about 10 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico with no bridges between your dock and the open water,” says JB Baldwin, lead developer of Anglers' Cove. “So, the location for anyone looking for water access is pretty spectacular.”

This quaint gated development is a marvel for its reclusiveness with Florida-coastal style homes, the likes of which you'd find in Key West, appealing to both secondary homeowners and permanent residents alike. The homes, which can be chosen from a selection of models or custom built, are all waterfront and some even offer expansive bay views.

True to its name, Anglers' Cove will be a sweet spot for people with a rod and reel glued to their hands, with plentiful and varied local catches. The Anna Maria pier is less than three blocks away from Anglers' Cove, and the waterways give immediate access to water sports, such as kayaking and jet skiing.

Other popular opportunities in Anna Maria include visiting the Sarasota Opera or the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall which hosts a number of touring comedians, musicians and other on-stage performers. Each is within 20 miles. Otherwise, residents tend to stay on the island to relish in the tropical private paradise.

“The attraction is having a quiet beach town with the option of going to museums and theaters,” says Kelly Baldwin, licensed realtor with Michael Saunders & Company and listing agent for the properties at Anglers’ Cove. “Anna Maria has a little bit of everything within a short distance.”

That little bit of everything is what interests buyers about Anglers' Cove, especially when looking to the tropical Gulf Coast for a getaway.

West Coast of Florida: Marco Island

By Malena Carollo

You don’t need a passport to visit the Florida paradise of Marco Island. Chosen for the Traveler’s Choice Award for 2014, this resort isle was ranked as No. 1 island in the United States by Trip Adviser, as well as the No. 4 island in the world.

“Once you come over that bridge you realize you’re in a very special place,” says Kris Bareis of Gulfshore Realty.

The tranquil island boasts four miles of white sugar sand beaches and a mild sub-tropic climate. Residents and visitors can enjoy a variety of recreational activities. For those looking for more leisurely afternoons, Marco Island offers shopping, shelling, dolphin watching and well-groomed golf courses. Those with a more active taste can take to the seas for fishing, boating, water sports or exploring the Everglades. No matter the activity, you can convene at one of the island’s many highly rated restaurants after a day out.

Homes on the pristine island range from beachy bungalows, to luxury high-rise condos, to waterfront canal homes and oceanfront masterpieces.

Bareis and fellow agent Jeffery Gilman specialize in luxury home and condo sales on Marco Island with Gulfshore Realty. They began representing Marco Island in 1978, working extensively with developers on locations such as Cape Marco, a prestigious gate community on the island’s south beach.

Two of the most sumptuous properties on Cape Marco are two penthouses at 970 Cape Marco Drive. Penthouse 2205, fit for the most discriminating buyers, spans 8,327 square feet. No expense was spared for the interior, and sharp attention to detail helped bring about an elegant and sophisticated decor. Penthouse 2408 stretches over 8,673 square feet and looks out on the glistening Gulf of Mexico. Both have access to club rooms, luxurious guest suites, a health and fitness center, tennis courts, pool and a theater.

Says Bareis, “Marco is truly a very special island resort community with much to offer its residents and visitors.”

West Coast of Florida: Naples

By Lauryn Howell

Named after the stunning Italian city, Naples perfectly embodies Florida Living while adding its own unique charm. While it exhibits the unbeatable weather, endless coast lines and sugar sand beaches we all love, Naples is much more than your basic Florida getaway.

Although visitors are drawn to the beauty of its Gulf Coast shores and world-class boating, there are also plenty of things to do a little farther inland. Home to 80 professional courses, Naples is the self-proclaimed “Golf Capital of the World,” making it the perfect place to tee off. If you’re looking for something a little faster paced, you’ll enjoy the world-class road biking or exciting nature tours through the nearby Florida Everglades.

In the words of Tim Savage, resident of Naples since 1986 and Principal/Realtor with Gulf Coast International Properties, “It’s a popular vacation destination, yet Naples has maintained a very real small town feel.” This intimacy is evident in the quaint downtown area, filled with restaurants and an historic shopping district. The art scene is also quite impressive with its numerous sophisticated galleries, frequent art fairs and events at the local Artis—Naples. Naples is a one-of-a-kind destination, quite literally offering something for everyone.

Tim has been helping people find their Naples dream home for over 16 years with fantastic listings in Naples premier locations such as the home at 220 North Lake Drive in Olde Naples. Sitting just seven houses from the beach, this Key West-style cottage estate is as beautiful as it is luxurious.

Florida will forever be a coveted vacation destination, but it’s the pristine cities like Naples that truly draw in residents and visitors. It doesn’t take a lot of convincing to attract visitors to Florida, and it’s easy to see why some never leave.
