Launched in 1976, the Esprit was a staple of the Lotus line up for 28 years. Although the Esprit did go through a number of redesigns during that period, the Esprit's basic wedge shape and dimensions never really changed. Powered, however, did increase steadily throughout the Esprit's life span. The first-generation Esprit had a 160-hp 2.0-liter I-4, meanwhile the last generation that debuted in 1996 was powered by a twin-turbocharged V-8 making 355 hp. The Esprit might not be dead; some speculate that Lotus will bring back the Esprit in the future. |
