The BMW Z3 was the small, 2-seat roadster offered by BMW until being replaced by the Z4 in 2002. Like the Mazda Miata, The original Z3 was a beautiful sports car that went for the same driving dynamics of an old British roadster. With its short overhangs, low weight and high powered engine, the Z3 was a dream to drive. The BMW Z3 came with a 5-speed manual transmission although a 4-speed automatic was an option. The Z3 was offered in convertible and the rare coupe format, which was more of a hatchback.
The bad boy of the Z3 world was the M Roadster and Coupe. The M-cars used a 3.2L I-6 that it shared with the sporty M3. The M Roadster was known for boatloads of torque. The coupe, with its lower weight over the rear wheels, was more of a beast to handle and would bite back by letting its tail out if not in the hands of a qualified driver. The Z4 was replaced with the bigger Z4 in 2002. People were either really like or really disliked the Z4’s styling, which makes the Z3 even more of a gem to own.
