The 3-series has been pushed to new heights with the addition of the BMW M3. The

The first BMW M3 first appeared in 1986. The car came equipped with a 2.3-liter
I-4 that made 192 horsepower. After a seven year run, the second generation BMW
M3 for sale appeared in 1992 in Europe with a 3.0-liter I-6 making 282 horsepower.
North America did not receive the second generation right a way, in fact the second
generation BMW M3 for sale was not available until 1995. The car received a detuned
version of the 3.0-liter I-6 making 240 horsepower. This generation was named Car
and Driver’s "Best-Handling Car Ever – at any Price" in 1997.
The third generation of the BMW M3 for sale came out in 2000 with the 3.2-liter
I-6 making 333 horsepower. It set the record for the highest specific output of
any BMW produced naturally-aspirated engine that year.
Finally, the latest generation that just appeared in 2008, got an amazing 4.0-liter
V-8 shoehorned and stuffed into its engine bay. The car makes an outstanding 414
horsepower and is good enough for a run to sixty in 4.1 seconds.

days. The CSL also was known under the name Light Weight. The GT was integrated
into production with minor changes to allow it to compete in the FIA-GT class II,
IMSA GT, and international long distance races.
