Looking for an Audi RS4 or S4 cars for sale? The Audi S4
and RS4 for sale are high-performance versions of the Audi A4 sedan. The Audi S4
and RS4 for sale, like other models in the Audi line-up, come standard with all-wheel
drive. This leaves the Audi S4 and RS4 with a rally-car-like demeanor. No matter
what, both the Audi S4 and RS4 are a blast to drive, whether in a straight line
or through some twisty corners. When looking for an Audi S4 for sale or a RS4 for
sale, you should know a little bit about the cars.
The original came out in 1991 as the performance version of the Audi 100. The first
S4 came with a 2.2L I-5 engine developing 227 horsepower. Quattro all-wheel drive,
an Audi trademark, and a 5-speed manual were standard. When the 100 turned into
the A6, the S4 became the S6.
The second generation came out in 1997 after a three-year hiatus. The car came with
a 2.7L V-6 producing 250 horsepower. Acceleration was quick with a zero-to-60 mph
time taking about 5.6 seconds.
The third generation hit the roads in 2003. For these models, Audi shoehorned a
big V-8 under the hood. The 4.2L V-8 churned out power at every rpm, though at its
peak it made 340 horsepower. The zero–to-60 mph time was 5.1 seconds.
All of the generations had a Avant or wagon counterpart. The 3rd and 4th generation
could come with a convertible top. The top was quick to stow, taking about 25 seconds
from start to finish. The current sedan begins at around $50,000 and the convertible
starts at about $7,000 more than that.
The RS4 has been around since 1999 but only offered in the United States since 2006.
The European-only car came with a 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 tuned for 375 horsepower.
The United States got the second generation car, which came with a 420 horsepower
4.2L V-8. In 2007, the Audi was the winner in the World Performance Car category
of the International World Car of the Year. It beat illustrious rivals, including
its larger sibling, the Audi S6, the Porsche 911 Turbo, Porsche 911 GT3, Ferrari
599 GTB and Jaguar XKR.
The future generation is rumored to be getting a twin-turbo V-6 like the second
generation. It is expected that the next generation will have similar performance
but weigh approiximately 100 lbs. less. Don’t expect the next generation car well
into late 2009 as a 2010 model. The 3.0 I-6 is expected to replace the current 3.2
V-6 in the Audi line-up.
