In 2008, the coupe and volante went through a mild facelift. The engine was tweaked
to 470 hp. A special edition car was also released after the racecar version won
the 2007 24 Hours of LeMans. All 124 of the special edition units were coupes and
came in Sarthe Silver. The car came standard with the sports package including red
brake calipers and a chrome mesh grill.
The interior, like most Aston Martin autos, is a pretty comfortable place to be.
The volante is available in a wide spectrum of color combinations from the color
of the top to the shades of leather inside. Besides the cosmetic options, the car
is also available with a sports pack, which comes with firmer springs, shocks, and
antiroll bar settings.
Over the years the DB9 has gone through a mixed bag of recognition by automotive
critics. BBC’s Top Gear called the car “Motoring Perfection". Car and Driver
on the other hand, tied it for last place with a Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG in a six-car
comparsion including a Ferrari 430, Ford GT, Lamborghini Gallardo, and a Porsche
911 Turbo. Car and Driver said the auto “doesn’t like being hurried in the
twisties and works best with a smooth, deliberate driving demeanor".
