The Aston Martin Vantage originally
started life as concept car in 2003. Aston Martin began putting the Vantage up for
sale in 2006. The Aston Martin Vantage has sold well mostly because it is the lightest,
most agile car in the company’s current line-up. It is also priced less than its
siblings; closer to the price of a 911 Turbo or other quasi-exotics. Power for the
current Aston Martin Vantage for sale is the recently-upgraded 4.7-liter V-8 making
420 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque. This change occurred in May of 2008. Prior to that,
all Aston Martin Vantages for sale came with a 4.3-liter V-8 making 380 hp and 302
lb-ft of torque.
The Aston Martin Vantage for sale has an MSRP near $110,000. Aston Martin also made
the six-speed sequential manual transmission, called Sportshift, available on the
Aston Martin Vantage for sale. The fast-acting transmission combined with the 420-hp
4.7-liter V-8 is good enough for zero–60 mph times near 4.3 seconds and with a top
speed near 185 mph.
Some changes, besides switching to the bigger engine, that occurred in 2008 include
new software for the Sportshift transmission, the addition of stiffened Bilstein
dampers, and an even more aggressive sport package.
Another type of Aston Martin is the Vantage roadster. It came with a soft convertible
top that could be raised or lowered electronically in less than 20 seconds. The
top could even be operated in speeds up to 30 mph.
To commemorate the company’s racing success at the Nurburgring track, Aston Martin
released the N400 package. Using the same 4.3-liter V-8, the N400 produced 400 hp.
The car also utilized new wheels, up-rated springs and dampers, and a new rear anti-roll
bar. The package was available on either coupe or roadster, with 240 total versions
of each being built.
A special edition car not yet available on the market is the V12 Vantage Road Sport
(RS). In early 2008, CEO confirmed the production of the V12 car. Unlike the concept,
which was equipped with a 600-hp 6.0-liter V-12, the production car will make only
550 hp.
Despite its best intentions, the car is still recognized as great grand tourer but
not a true sports car. The transmission cannot compete with the ultra-quick offerings
from Ferrari or Porsche. The engine, though powerful, is not strong enough to compete
with the supercar numbers being posted by even the entry level Ferraris and Lamborghinis.
To sum it up, the car feels best when being slightly pushed but feels less precise
and content when being pushed hard.
Besides the current V8 Vantage car, the term Vantage has been used a lot by Aston
Martin. It was a name usually reserved for its high performance models. There was
one distinct and seperate model with that name that was produced between 1972 and
1973. The auto was powered by a straight-6. Because of the limited production, the
Vantage is well sought after. Which means the original Vantage can be hard to locate.
