Now that the British car builder and race team has a few production road-going models under its belts, customers are lining up at the door to get behind the wheel of their latest supercars. It's difficult not to be impressed with the new kid on the block.

The McLaren 650S Spider for sale is, “just as engaging on the road and track,” as its Coupe counterpart, and we are in agreement. Mechanically, the convertible is identical to the Coupe, with the same twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 641 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. This power means the car can rocket from 0-62 mph in 3.0 seconds and 0-124 mph in 8.6 seconds, just .2 seconds slower than the Coupe. The car also tops out at 204 mph, a speed not many are daring enough to reach.

The new retractable hardtop can be lowered or raised in 17 seconds, and drivers can do so while stationary or at speeds up to 19 mph. This hardtop rises up into the air and then rests in the rear compartment in a flawless manner. Considering the ingenuity of their engineers, the smooth transition from closed-top to hard-top supercar acts just as you would expect. Another specification that deserves recognition is that the convertible weighs only 88 pounds more than the Coupe. The convertible, overall, compromises nothing and adds the exhilaration of the top-down feeling.
