The limo has been with us for 90 years, long lauded as the flagship RR and the epitome of established wealth. Privately wealthy and public figures both have chosen the British car as their ideal mode of transport, such as Lady Astor, the first female member of British Parliament, and her 1935 Sedanaca de Ville.

The two most recent generations launched in 2003, carrying the tradition of fine exterior coachwork, master-crafted leather and veneer interiors into the twenty-first century by incorporating the latest technology in their design. The body and chassis are crafted from aluminum to keep the automobile’s impressive weight as low as possible. Underneath the wood and leather-trimmed dash, a veritable army of computers manages the navigation, suspension, performance and entertainment systems. A centrally-mounted analog dashboard clock greets drivers and passengers when the multifunction touch screen is not in use and concealed behind the veneer. At the front of the car, the Spirit of Ecstasy is remotely retractable into the radiator casing.

In spite of its formidable 5,487-pound curb weight, it's capable of smoothly accelerating from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds with the help of its 6.75-liter 453 hp V12 engine. The effortless power source will waft the car to a top speed of 149 mph, whisking discerning owners efficiently to their destination.

In 2012, the Series II emerged, updated in several ways. Features include an update from the previous round running lights to rectangular LED fixtures, a simplified dashboard, larger user interface screen, and a new 8-speed gearbox. This amazing car represents an infinitely customizable opportunity for a new owner with 44,000 paint selections available accompanied by a nearly limitless variety of leather and veneers. With this level of customization, your price is dear, but it is far preferable to the alternative of blending into the masses.

Available in a 230-inch or 239-inch extended-wheelbase (EWB) layout, the sedan begs its owner to sit back and enjoy the ride. The back seat is enormous. With 12-inch monitors on the back of each front seat, available side window curtains, and an optional cooler to stow your favorite white wine, the four-door is cozy enough to make its owner want to skip the first-class flight and be driven instead. The backseat also sits 0.7 of an inch higher than the front seats for an uninterrupted view out the front window and the rear doors house Teflon-coated umbrellas if the weather gets rough. It’s these small touches that make the luxury car so endearing.

For the chauffeur, propulsion comes from the 6.75-liter V-12 engine that does triple duty in all three forms. It is powerful, yet never once does its sound intrude into the isolated cabin. The best part is that it, too, can be equally enjoyed from the rear chairs.

Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII
Bold, commanding and indulgent, the Phantom VIII holds the honor of being the oldest model name on the market today. First developed in 1925, new versions of the Phantom do not come along often with the current model being the eighth Phantom manufactured. This fact paired with the ritzy allure of the Rolls-Royce brand makes the latest interpretation of the Phantom even more thrilling. Yielding a vigorous 6.8-liter V12 engine, the Phantom VIII breeds a 563 horsepower, 663 lb-ft of torque turnout. This is a substantial increase over the power harnessed by previous models. Aside from the revved-up endowment, the Phantom VIII receives a vast number of other advancements. The first Rolls-Royce to incorporate an aluminum space frame, this model is entirely redesigned. The dimensions of this frame come in with a decrease to the height and the wheelbase but even with this minor reduction, the Phantom VIII retains monstrous proportions when stacked up against other cars in its class. Likewise, the exterior shell was altered to give the vehicle a similar look to its fabled predecessor. Further details like a taller stainless-steel radiator grille, triple glazed windows, and enhanced headlights distinguish this upgraded model from the ones of the past. Discovering the interior proves to be an enticing endeavor with a glass dashboard, rear folding power-operated picnic tables, 12-inch displays integrated into the backs of the front seats, exquisite leather and a range of trim options.

One of the most recognizable vehicles in the Rolls-Royce lineup is the fabled 2020 Phantom—the ultimate Rolls-Royce. It has roots that can be traced back to an era before World War II and has always been a world-class vehicle intended for the most elite passengers. In modern years, it was reintroduced to the market in 2003 and was the first vehicle manufactured after BMW took ownership of Rolls-Royce back in 1998. The Phantom has a distinctive look and is instantly recognizable by anyone who is familiar with the Rolls-Royce brand. It’s more than an ultra-luxurious sedan; it’s a status symbol. With a revered boxy and polished design, it stands out in a crowd of boxy sports cars and holds its own. From the aggressive, perfectly-integrated front grille that graces the extended front end to the slightly-angled rear window glass, the Rolls-Royce Phantom commands the attention of onlookers. Inside, drivers experience a feeling that can only be compared to that of a trip to the spa. Rolls-Royce truly coddles its drivers and their passengers by ensuring that no detail, regardless of how seemingly over the top, is left unnoticed. High-quality construction materials are given. But Rolls-Royce spoils Phantom drivers with an unparalleled sense of space, LED lighting, climate controls on each door, picnic tables in the rear and the option of including a rear sleeping seat. The actual driving experience is nothing short of pleasurable. Equipped with a twin-turbo 6.8-liter V12 engine mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic, the Rolls-Royce Phantom gets the job done exceptionally well. And, it does it all this while ensuring the comfort of passengers and drivers with the inclusion of features like pothole smoothing.
