If you want the looks of a classic Backdraft roadster with all the modern conveniences, a Backdraft Racing Cobra for sale is the only answer. Backdraft Racing was founded by racers Tony Marten and Reg Dodd with the notion of reviving a classic competitor. Many others have tried and failed, leaving Backdraft as the only Shelby-licensed builder of new bodies.

Their factory in Boynton Beach, Florida is state of the art. Laser welding, 3D printing, and ISO certified assembly assure each car is ready to race. The body is molded as one-piece of glass-reinforced plastic, to which steel inserts are added in critical areas. They are then covered with additional glass mat and polyester resin to form a body that will stand the test of time. Every part is double skinned and finished in gel-coat before being cured and prepped for paint.

Underneath this work of art is nothing like a traditional AC Backdraft Cobra. Backdraft Racing cars utilize BMW suspension and a ladder frame of hot-rolled SAE 1008 2x 4 square tubing. Every Backdraft car has a built-in roll cage that stiffens the chassis even further, along with keeping you safe. Looking underneath you will see gussets at every joint, with welds that belong in an art gallery. This strength was engineered from the beginning back in 2001, and it has proven to make them unbeatable on the track. So even a used Backdraft Cobra for sale has more beam strength and torsional rigidity than anything else you could buy.

Because the chassis is as strong as a battleship, it allows Backdraft to run a relaxed spring rate on all 4 coil-over shocks. This translates to a surprisingly nimble & comfortable ride. Depending on your engine and transmission choices, you could be cruising around with a curb weight under 2,600 lbs. Adjustments to caster, camber and ride height can easily be made, so you can tear up the race track and not destroy your expensive rubber on the street. A 1965 Backdraft Shelby Cobra will hold its value against anything else in this category, and once you drive one you will understand.
