Mercedes says SL's "smooth V-12" should continue in "some form"

Mercedes-Benz may have dropped the current V-12 SL cars (the SL600 for 2011 and the SL65 for 2012) but it doesn’t mean that engine will not return upon the release of the new model in 2013 (which will most likely be revealed next year). Dan Barile, a Mercedes-Benz spokesperson, was very cryptic in his wording, stating that it is too early to know for sure but that it expects the V-12 to return in “some form.” It does recognize that the new 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 with the AMG Performance Package does make more power than the 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-12 but still thinks there is a portion of the market that will opt for a “smooth V-12.”
