Aston Martin has teamed up with Mobiado—a small over-priced and under-speced luxury phone manufacturer since 2004—to produce a line of cell phones that may one day incorporate technology to unlock or even start an owner’s car. In anticipation of the new line of phones, details on the CPT002 Aston Martin Concept Phone have been released. The CPT002 Aston Martin Concept Phone consists of a solid sapphire crystal touchscreen, making the phone completely transparent when not in use. The electronics are stuffed into the platinum edges on either side of the phone. Battery and GSM signal strength bars have been integrated into the top design and force the Aston Martin logo front and center. Dots along the bottom— à la the iPhone—will tell you which screen you are currently on.
The concept is designed to work as an accessory for any of the newer Aston Martins. The phone unlocks the doors when approaching the car, shows you were you are parked thanks to its built-in navigation and GPS, and will use its accelerometer to gain insight into the driver's movement from within the car seat during a crash and send that information to the automobile for the more effective deployment of airbags and seatbelt stiffening.
Mobiado says there are no current plans to start selling the CPT002 Aston Martin Concept Phone.
