Four out 10 millionaires say they do not feel rich according to a Fidelity Investments study. Forty-two percent of 1,000-plus high-net-wealth individuals (HNWIs) said that they do not feel wealthy. HNWIs are defined as having investable assets of $1 million or more, excluding primary residence, collectibles, consumables, and consumer durables. This is down from 2009 when 46 percent of respondents said they did not feel wealthy. Many of the respondents said they would need at least $7.5 million in order to feel truly rich.
The average age of the respondents was 56 years old with a mean $3.5 million in investable assets.
According to the World Wealth Report 2010, the number of HNWIs grew 17.1 percent to 10 million in 2009, returning to 2007 levels. The U.S. is home to the most HNWIs at 2,866,000 in 2009. Japan follows in second place with 1,600,000 millionaires.
