A look back at a 1959 Rolls-Royce magazine advertisement

Those were the days. Back when Rolls-Royce cars were advertised for not being chauffeur driven, stability tests meant running an engine for seven hours straight, and people looked at power steering, power brakes, and automatic transmissions as luxury items. Yet things seem to remain the same. The 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud came with a switch to adjust the shock absorbers, just like today’s cars. And the company’s “patient attention to detail” has never gone astray. Not to mention those frivolous options are still being offered. We have to wonder, was the optional Espresso machine, dictating machine, bed, hot and cold water, electric razor, and telephone actually items built into the car or items the dealer threw in the trunk to close the deal?
