The Ferrari P540 Superfast Aperta is a one-off model based on the 599 GTB and constructed for Edward Walson, the son of the man that brought us cable television, for what must have been a heavy premium. The design of the car is reminiscent of a Ferrari constructed by coachbuilder Fantuzzi and used in a 1965 short film called Toby Dammit. The film was part one of three films based on stories by Edgar Allen Poe and marketed in the United States and England as a trilogy called Spirits of the Dead.
Since the car is based off a coupe, much effort was put into strengthening the chassis to go roofless. To save weight the engineers decided to utilize plenty of carbon fiber for its light-weight high-strength attributes. The result is a modest 44-pound weight gain. The car is a tad longer, 184 versus 186 inches, and a smidge shorter in width than the stock 599. Power comes from the same 5999cc V-12 engine making 611 hp at 7,600 rpm as the base car so you can expect it to also share similar performance. The car is part of Ferrari’s Special Projects Program, which enables people with deep pockets to commission a design house to create a masterpiece in the owner’s inspiration with full Ferrari factory support.
