In a 22-car comparison test conducted by Car and Driver and based exclusively on lap times, the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR came in second, trailing only the $342,000 Mosler MT900S around the 4.2-mile Grand Course at Virginia International Raceway near Danville, Virginia. In a 10-car shootout conducted by Road and Track on the Street of Willow Springs at the Willow International Roadway, the Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR placed second, falling behind the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 by only 0.11 of a second.
This is why it comes as only a mild surprise that the Dodge Viper ACR may be producing more horsepower than Dodge is advertising. DragTimes.com decided to strap the race-ready Viper to a dynamometer and was surprised to find the monster V-10 making 546 hp and 510 lbs-ft of torque at the rear wheels. If you add the 15% for driveline losses, the new Viper ACR puts out numbers close to 642 hp and 600 lbs-ft of torque. This is quite an increase over the 600 hp and 560 lbs-ft advertised and very close to its closest competitor in terms of price, the Corvette ZR1.
