1960 Chrysler 300 F Convertible

spacer
spacer 1960 Chrysler 300F Convertible. The Chrysler 300 was heir to the tradition of exclusive , powerful American luxury cruisers built in limited quantities for a few fortunate souls. By 1960 Chrysler had dropped the 331 CI Hemi engine in favor of the new 413 "Wedge", and Virgil Exner's "Forward Looking" design philosophy, which incorporated the huge fins that sprouted from many Detroit offerings in the fifties, was at its peak in popularity.
The 1960 300F was the boldest yet of Exner's designs. Built with Chrysler's new unibody system, the 300F coupe and convertibles were still low-production exclusives. The 413 "Wedge Head" V8 rated at 375 HP utilizing the now famous cross-ram intake system that concentrates power in the mid-rpm range to produce incredible torque.
This cars performance set records at Bonneville and Daytona but styling was the icing on the 300 cake, and the 1960 300 "F" version had it all. This Alaskan White 300F convertible beautifully showcases the Exner approach. The grille treatment represents the first appearance of the "crosshair" design that has returned as a Chrysler styling hallmark, with gold Chrysler script on the hood and prominent "300" badging that also appears on the quarter panels. Out back, those long sweeping fins accent the enormous rear deck with its integrated "Continental" bump.
The interior is luxuriously finished in Beige leather with Black dash and carpets. The power front leather bucket seats swivel outward to ease entry and exit, and the raised console extends the full length of the cockpit. The Astra-Dome Instrument group dominates the space-age dash, which also presents controls for air conditioning, radio and the push-button transmission. A beautiful Black convertible top caps the 300F's sleek lines for closed motoring. One of only 248 convertibles made in 1960.
