Purchased new at Empress Motors in Victoria British Columbia, this particular Acadian Canso was special since the day it was ordered. When the original owner spec’d out and ordered their Canso checking the option box for the top of the line L79 327/350hp engine with 4 speed transmission, thy chose a very potent combination with high horsepower and the light curb weight of the Acadian. After about one year of ownership, two brothers found the car for sale and had to purchase it. The car proved so quick on the street they chose to go racing with it, removing all excess weight while carefully storing all original pieces and the “Canadian Acadian” was born. After a brief racing career it was carefully put into storage with all original components not to be touched again for a full 30 years. The next stage of the cars life what when it was discovered by a collector who had a special eye for unique and rare cars. Once a deal was struck, the car along with its original engine and all associated parts were shipped to a restoration facility for a complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration to concours specifications. The body was in absolutely incredible condition after its years of storage; all the rare and irreplaceable badges of the Acadian Canso were present right down to the hub caps. The original L79 327/350hp engine was rebuilt and fully detailed, the upholstery and interior panels were meticulously restored as replacements for the unique Acadian only cars are not available. The Sandalwood Metallic paint was applied and fully polished to a show quality finish. The special badges and chrome trim were delicately restored to perfection. A full 3 ½ years later, the car was complete and then quickly starting collection awards such as AACA Senior Award winner, Best in Class awards at multiple Concours D’Elegance events as well as several magazine features as such a rare and unique muscle car. Included with this car is a complete photo diary of its existence dating back to May 1966 followed by photos of its drag racing days, being carefully put into and out of storage and of course full photos of its restoration. Backing it all up is the bullet proof documentation from GM of Canada’s Vintage Vehicle Services showing it as 1 of only 63 Acadians produced that year with the desirable L79 engine option and the car is also the only Acadian Canso Sport Coupe listed in the Canadian L79 Registry to still exist. This car is a true collector and show car with all the desired qualities; rarity, uniqueness, desirable options, powerful drivetrain and an award winning restoration.
