2008 FREIGHTLINER SPORT CHASSIS P2
NEWS & REVIEWS
You gotta love a “civilianized” work truck that gives you the option of ostrich or alligator inserts for the leather seats. Or 26-inch polished air horns. But everything about Freightliner’s new lineup of SportChassis models is larger than life. Even bigger than a supersized life. Our favorite is the four-door P2 four with the low-sided pickup bed. Perfect for loading in a bunch of kayaks or mountain bikes and heading to the lake. Or bolting down a fifth-wheel hitch and hooking up a massive gooseneck trailer for the horses, racecars, or quad bikes. Based on Freightliner’s rugged M2106 commercial chassis means the P2 has frames as thick as the I-beams on the Brooklyn Bridge. Power comes from Mercedes’s MBE 900 series 7.2-liter turbo diesel with 330 hp and a mighty 1,000 lb-ft of torque, delivered at just 1,300 rpm. And the cab is huge—so big that they don’t call the backseat a bench, it’s a sofa. Prices start at around $135,000. www.sportchassis.com
