Shelby SuperCars, manufacturer of the former fastest production car on the planet, will make the name of its next supercar public in the upcoming weeks as it prepares for its launch for the 2013 model year. SSC even plans to post a short video on its web site regarding the car's name.
The SSC Ultimate Aero II, as it has been dubbed by the media, is targeting a top speed of 275 mph to retake the crown from the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Its plans include a 7.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 creating 1,350 hp and powering the rear wheels through a seven-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed sequential manual gearbox. To keep weight down to a rumored 2,600 pounds, the car makes extensive use of carbon fiber for the body and even the rims.
