In our review of the 2011 Dodge Challenger R/T, we noted that the 2012 model would receive the adaptive damping system found in the 2012 Charger. We spoke with Dodge and now have clarification: the Adaptive Damping Suspension (ADS) will be available on the 2012 Challenger SRT8 392.
The adaptive dampers in the 2012 Charger uses a wide range of data on both road conditions and driver input (such as vehicle speed, steering angle, steering speed, brake torque, throttle position, and lateral acceleration) to automatically tune the suspension. Besides the automatic alterations, drivers can also manually choose a Sport setting. Dodge says there will be a noticeable difference between the two ADS modes (Auto and Sport) in the Challenger and that in Sport, it will be “the most capable (vehicle)—handling wise—in the lineup.” Without the Dodge Viper, we don't doubt the credence of that statement.
