A 1958 Ferrari Testa Rossa sits front and center in Ralph Lauren’s large collection of vintage Ferraris. It is one of 27 ever built and is worth more than any of the cars in our list of the most expensive cars of 2011. The warehouse that holds Ralph Lauren's large collection of classic and new automobiles even makes our list of the world’s most beautiful garages seem commonplace.
You can see he groups the car’s by manufacturer but it appears to be organized by color, making it obvious that he likes his Ferraris in red and his Mercedes-Benz cars in silver. Jay Leno’s garage is made for tinkering. Ralph Lauren’s garage, on the other hand, is setup like a fine museum; look closely, but please do not touch.
In a remote corner sits a 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe, one of two surviving cars. Last year, the other Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic sold to the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California, for between $30 and $40 million, making it, unofficially, the world’s most expensive car. It is just one of the many rare specimens that Mr. Lauren has been able to obtain. You can tell each car has been meticulously picked and, most likely, meticulously restored. And each comes with a story that would be worthy of a museum. Follow the link to view more pictures of Ralph Lauren's car collection.
