A very good reason to NEVER speed in Canada

The North Vancouver Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seized and sold a Blue 2008 Ferrari 430 Scuderia for going 200 km/h (124 mph) in a 60-km/h (37-mph) zone and just missing a woman with two young children while street racing a BMW. The government sold the Ferrari to a local dealership for $235,000 under a provincial civil forfeiture law, netting a nearly $50,000 profit, or 20 percent of the car’s sale price, for the province and giving the driver and a relative of the driver that is part owner $70,500 and $117,500, respectively. The Ferrari was racing a BMW M6, which was also seized. The government decided to punish both drivers to the fullest extent of the law because of the nature of the crime. Both drivers were also given 15-day driving bans. The government hopes to net $100,000 from the sale of both vehicles. The money will go to “policing and crime prevention.”

“When a vehicle has killed or injured someone, it’s too late,” Solicitor General Rich Coleman was quoted as saying. “Our laws now work to take vehicles away from reckless drivers before they hurt someone, because they are demonstrating no regard for the safety of themselves or others on our roads.”
