Ferrari 458 Italia Fires

A rash of 458 Italia fires caused Ferrari to investigate and issue a recall for the 2010 model due to a possible defect that could cause the car to suddenly combust. Ferrari found that an adhesive that bonds the heat shield to the left- and right-hand wheelhouses could ignite when under particularity high operating temperatures. The recall affects 1,248 units globally with 303 of those cars located in the U.S. As part of the recall, authorized Ferrari dealers will exchange the existing heat shields for free beginning in September. The bonding agent used on the new units will be replaced with fasteners or rivets. Owners are asked to contact Ferrari for more information at (201) 816-2600.

Ferrari started its investigation into the possible defect after five reported incidences of sudden fires in the 458 Italia supercar.
