Top speed records are about as hot as Top Gear’s Powerlap times and Nürburgring track records and now that Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has officially taken the reigns as the world’s fastest production car, SCC and the previous record holder prior to the base Veyron, Koenigsegg, are both letting their intentions to beat the new Veyron Super Sport at its own game be known.
SSC with its “Because Life Begins at 250” slogan is preparing a new SSC Ultimate Aero to be shown in September that will potentially take back the title from the Halloween-colored supercar. You may also remember that the 2009 SSC Ultimate Aero was altered to produce more power and perform better aerodynamically although no new top speed runs were ever performed. At that time SSC estimated the Ultimate Aero's new top speed to be 270 mph.
Word from Top Gear is that Koenigsegg wants to reclaim the title after a five-year hiatus. No special model is being planned because Christian Von Koenigsegg believes the new Agera is capable of the feat.
